2 Timothy 2:15
"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth."
Bev, my wife, received an e-mail from a dear friend of ours
that read in the subject, "Inner Peace." In the body of the
e-mail was written...
"I've been told that a way to achieve inner peace
is to finish the things I have started. Today I
finished two bags of potato chips and a chocolate
cake. I feel better already."
Funny, isn't it? But what isn't funny is that this is the
a lot of people misinterpret the Bible. They read a verse or
two and because of a failure to really be a student of God's
Word and a lack of understanding His Word, they end up with
all kinds of weird interpretations of what it really means.
In the verse quoted above, the Apostle Paul was giving
Timothy an admonition to be a good student of the Word.
Rightly dividing means to be clear and precise in
interpretation, and application.
Now, perhaps more than ever, we need to have a good under-
standing of the Word of God. People all around us are
searching for answers to what is going on in the world. They
are looking for something that is not just a pat answer or
ambiguous -- something that will bring a real and lasting
to their anxieties.
The Word of God is the remedy to this universal need. Study
it, won't you? Become a student of the Word -- ready in
season and out of season. It will bring peace to you... and
those you share it with.
