The Big Moon

Wed 31/05/2023
When I woke up I could hear a noise at the window, which was a squirrel sitting on the sill. We need to cut back the tree branches, otherwise they’ll be in the attic again. I might go to the Library of Things and get a long chopper.

I got a ticket for Swim Deep Jaws. Having blundered by not booking the tickets in time, I went on the waiting list but I'd only said I wanted one ticket (the default setting), so I’ve now had to ask Jack to go on the list. I’d already previously missed a chance, when a ticket came up but I didn’t see the message in time. We’re missing Peace tomorrow night, as I delayed buying that ticket as well. Not like me.

I entered all the hotels and train trips for our forthcoming holiday into my calendar, and worked out the way from the stations to all our hotels. My Rough Guide arrived today. I’d not long ago sent my previous Switzerland Rough Guide to Oxfam, but I think it’s worth having a book so I don’t spend the whole trip on my phone, possibly without free wi-fi when I need it. You get a bonus app anyway, and I also downloaded another with all the train ride details on.

I also organised my marathon training long runs to fit in with the holiday. At lunchtime I tried some intervals training, though it seemed I was finding it hard to vary the pace. Actually I think the watch was giving me wrong pace information; when I looked later, there was actually a stark change of pace at the approriate time. I had falafel and tofu on Ryvita when I got back.

In the evening, we finished my risotto then went to see The Big Moon at the Roundhouse. The Big Moon had some delicious harmonies and did a good long set, and as we know they have some great tunes, but we weren’t in a great position, too far to the left, and it would have been far better to have caught them earlier, at a smaller venue. We couldn’t see the drummer at all, or the sexy violin players who came on, hidden behind a speaker from our view.

The Lime Garden were first on, we saw twenty minutes of their set, more indie-pop and less electronic than they sound on recorded material. Next were Prima Queen, who we’ve already seen this year, some good melodies but little variation.
