Ride London

Sun 28/05/2023
I did the Junior ParkRun with Emily, who I didn’t see at the finish. I thought she’d left but I later found out she’d been waiting for the kids to come round another time!

I did an online fruit and veg order, then we set off for Ride London. We stopped for a coffee at the British Library and joined the ride at High Holborn. It was lovely to ride round the main roads of central London, free of motor traffic. It went via Bank, the Embankment, Queen Victoria memorial, Pall Mall, the Mall and up Kingsway.

There were family fun zones at Bank, Trafalgar Square and the Mall which had countdowns every 200km, and a Finish line, like a running race, but we never intended to do it that way, with the route coming quite close to us. Jack lost his phone. I lost him while he searched for a steward at Holborn, and we retraced our ride back to the British Library, looking on the floor, but found it had been handed in.

We decided to eat at My Village, where we used to go often, but haven’t visited for ages, as there’s not really time in work lunchtimes. There were some sexy girls eating there. Afterwards we rode to a very busy Primrose Hill where we sat in the sunshine. Lynda who I’d been with yesterday posted a picture of herself there, even though she lives South of the river.

Then we sat at the Hub in Regent’s Park for a while, watching some cricket. It seemed a mixture of ad-hoc and organisation. We saw the second part of one match and the first of another, which seemed one-sided as the batsman was scoring boundaries and runs off every delivery.

This time we did get a coffee from the office by the canal, which arrived eventually, and drunk it in their little area by the water.

Turns out Sharon is a Coventry fan; she went to see City play Luton at Wembley yesterday.
