The mysterious missing boyfriend

Saturday 25/03/2023
Marshalled at ParkRun with lovely Karen, who I haven’t seen for a while. She’s very happy with a new job and a flat near the heath. She hadn’t volunteered before at ParkRun so during the race I DM’d her to say there was a big gap in participants towards the end and she said she was freezing. She had her arm squeezed round my waist for the picture

Afterwards, instead of writing that it was good to see her, which would mean she was obliged to respond that she was glad to see me, I wrote that I hoped she’d warmed up, and she said “thanks Lisa, was lovely to see you” which was nice, being unprompted. I did tell Linda who did the run, that it was good to see her, and she said it was “lovely” to see me! These girls are so sweet.

I then went to Ponders End to help run a refreshment station at the ultra run, getting the train through Camden and getting my connection at Hackney only because it was two minutes late. I gathered from group chat messages that Louise was probably in the train, identified on my phone as “Louise C”. However it wasn’t the same Louise C I was expecting, who’d got on my train on the same route before.

We also met Sharon and we went in a not-very- useful café by the station, before crossing to the site. Simon was already set up and we were joined by James who said to all the runners “we have food, we have drink”.

I was surprised to see Sophie come through. Others helping included Neil, Audrey who I hadn’t met before, and lovely Beth C. There were horses to watch in the field behind a fence.

While I was there, Elisa asked me to check at her boyfriend’s flat as she hasn’t heard from him since Wednesday and they’re going out for her birthday on Monday. So on the way home I diverted to his flat in Highgate. I managed to get in to the block but had trouble finding his flat, so I phoned Elisa and found out it was through an unmarked door in the left of the block, then up some stairs.

There was no answer but I left a note on a luggage label I’d found outside a hotel, giving him Elina’s phone number, in case he’d lost his phone. I spoke to a neighbour who said she’d heard him that day. I then saw a message from Jack asking me to pick something up from Argos which was supposed to have been picked up the day before, and I just got there in time but it had gone back to the sender.

Looking at my old comics again, I was impressed by the sexy mini-skirts one of the girls wore every week, whatever she was doing. Her mum looked great as well in a variety of dresses, very well drawn.

Marshalled at Junior ParkRun with Alison, then went to help Simon at Pen, mainly weeding. I went home for a bit and looked at my old comics again then went to Alexandra Palace, but no-one else seemed to be there. Elisa phoned me and asked me to join her to check her boyfriend’s flat again.

After I’d been home for a bit, I joined her for a meal at Sushi Wa. She’d already been to his flat but thought he might be at the gym. After the meal, we went back to his flat and waited an hour for him to return. As it happened, Jack had missed his train through looking after his Dad, but he still got home before me. I left Elena at 23:00 when her boyfriend still hadn’t returned.

Went to Camley Street for lunch but they hadn’t got any food, so we diverted to Ellie’s. I went to Victoria Park to help shift some sand with Rosie, Rogan, Fiona, Emma, Johnny and a new girl. I was maybe over-chatty at the start with Fiona and Emma, but then was seated form them to most of the time. I showed Louise the way to the canal and we ran to the community centre; she's a good pacer for me, I was having difficulty keeping up with her but did my fastest run for a long time.

We had to wait a while for the others to arrive. Victoria was at the community centre, now the weather’s improved, as well as Kim, Patrick and Katie. We were in a tight space at the front, moving earth. We cleared two full planters of vegetables and moved the soil over to another planter.

Elisa waited another hour but her boyfriend didn't return which is odd. I think he's got in more trouble with the police and gone back to his homeland

Went into the office and to Bagelicious for lunch. In the evening we wentvto see England u21 play Croatia. It was mostly one-way traffic, but Croatia scored with a free-kick and a penalty and won 2-1 even though England had beaten France 4-0 at the weekend. I was surprised that Gibbs-White and Djed Spence only came on as subs. Only later did I find that they’d made ten changes for this match so it was basically a reserve side.

Jack was in the office again. I went to help Pete deliver leaflets, which we hadn’t managed to do last week, the South Bank task tonight having been cancelled. It was dry when I met him but rained thereafter and I got gradually soaked. I went by train this time and just ran the last bit, but afterwards I got on the first bus that stopped, got a train from West Hampstead and went in the chippy before I got home at 20:30. Jack hadn’t got in yet.

He worked late again on Thursday and although we got to Organica and the began café for lunch, we only had time for a coffee at Everyman in the evening.
