Liverpool and Manchester

Wed 01/02/2023
I went for a run along the Mersey, in the old dockland area, but got lost trying to find the hotel afterwards. We had a full English breakfast at a vegan café, The Vibe, near the river. We then went to look for the Government office where Jack wanted to support the pickets, but it had moved. Instead we walked between the two cathedrals, and though a grassed valley next to the Anglican one.

There were some grass slopes at the edge, which looked as if they led out of the valley, but the paths at the top were un-kept and there was no way through the fence. I didn’t want to scramble down the hill as I don’t want to get injured again. We came across some pickets and visited a teachers rally at the Adelphi.
Having been walking for two hours and twenty minutes, after an 8km run earlier, I really wanted to sit down and we found a nice café, Organico Juice Bar and Eatery, where I chose the healthy option.

I’d been looking yesterday for local CA tasks, but Liverpool had met on Monday and Crewe was too far. However, Trafford had a task tonight so we got a coach to Manchester which left fifteen minutes late, and despite all the traffic, took the right amount of time to get there, even though the National Express site said it would take longer and I’d written to the organiser saying we might be delayed.

We rushed to get a tram and arrived in time at a modern community centre in a church hall, and we didn’t actually start the task until seventeen minutes after the official arrival time. One person had pulled out so there were only four of us, one of whom I’d briefly met at the AGM last year. She was a bit sniffy about London, saying she wouldn’t go if they held the AGM there.

We only just managed to get on the tram afterwards, as it stopped at Old Trafford and was packed because Manchester United were at home (the attendance was 72,315). Jack wanted to see again the historic square and library, and as we looked for an alternative route back to the coach station, we found an atmospheric café/bar underneath the arches.

The coach was forty minutes late arriving, which we found out from the app but not the indicator board. On the way home I realised we were supposed to be seeing ‘The Best of Enemies’ tonight. I’d checked I had nothing in my diary for Tuesday, but not Wednesday, maybe because I’d got a day off work.
