Never Broken

No right person required!

A lot of people go through life on a quest to try and find the “right person.” If you find them, you’ll find a perfect life; if you don’t, you’ll be unhappy. You’ll be incomplete until another loves you, and you’re everything you are because you are loved. This is one of the most destructive myths in today’s culture.

God’s main purpose in life—for everyone—is to prepare you for himself and his kingdom. Marriage is one way he does that, but it’s not the only way.

In marriage, you’ll always marry the wrong person. They’re a sinner. You’re a sinner. You’re not a lonely person who needs a soulmate; you’re a sinner who needs a saviour.

And your sin issues won’t be fixed by changing partners. Marriage doesn’t create problems, it reveals them. There are no married people issues, just individual people issues that are revealed in it.

If you only live life on a rabid, obsessive search for the “right person” because they’re the key to a happy life, you’re missing the point. After talking about all the needs you obsess about—food, clothing, companionship—Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 ESV).

God created you to set your eyes on him and focus on becoming who he wants you to be, allowing him to choose what ways he will provide for your needs. Whether you’re single or married, your focus is on becoming who God has made you to be. No “right person” required.
