ParkRun / Parliament Hill track

Sat 14/05/2022
I’ve been trying hard to catch up with new releases; Did a ParkRun at Victoria Dock; left with quite a narrow margin of error after getting up at 9:25, missed the 09:41 connection for the DLR so ran to the course but IL got the 09:51 and made it. Again I got off to a reasonably fast first mile but couldn’t maintain it. Afterwards IL was telling me she’d split with her boyfriend two days ago. She’d since contacted his ex-wife who said there’d been domestic violence. I asked A whether she’d cycled and she sarcastically mentioned the hel et she was carrying, as if I’m gazing at her all the time.

Going home, I got off at Waterloo to get the Northern Line but it wasn’t running, which is probably why CityMapper said to go via Green Park in the first place. I had five hours at home which I spent making one-pan spicy rice and listening to more new releases. I’m still on April and due to a spreadsheet error, week 17 includes a lot of stuff I’d heard in previous weeks.

In the evening I was stewarding at the 10,000m PB event at Parliament Hill athletics track. I got a 214 but felt listless so went and got some Red Bull and an energy bar from Swauns Lane. This time we weren’t moving the fence round the track but just stewarding the crowd and picking up litter. I soon saw Sally and Anne, who was very quiet and I wasn’t sure what I liked about her before. Sally I found out has got slight Long-Covid and can’t run more than 2km without being tired the rest of the day (so no Maverick races in the near future). This despite her not ever being bad enough to go to hospital. I’d spoken to Simon and saw Paul and Katy, who I hadn’t seen for a while, giving out programmes at the entrance.

I caught up with Katy – wearing a denim mini skirt – in the queue for the Ladies, then had a chat with Ana – also in a short skirt – who looked exceptionally beautiful. PM and his girlfriend were there too; I haven’t seen them since before the pandemic, then I got chatting with Vic, who also looked great and did a ParkRun in 20 minutes this morning. In the past I thought she talked too much but I had a lovely chat with her today. She’s living in a disused school.

I didn’t expect to be drinking, but Katy got me one and then later I got a second which I drank too quick and made me dehydrated. I was standing with Beth and Katy but Beth irritated me when she got upset about the Ladies being called “girls”. She reminded me of culture warriors who get annoyed about the use of certain words. After having trouble finding somewhere to leave my Tabard – disappointedly Simon had gone to the VIP area – I got the bus home.

I managed to get to bed slightly early. I was enjoying my Rise And Fall Of Communism book, but after reading to page 320 I've found there were 32 pages missing in the middle. I've never know this in a book before. I got it at Waterstones in Birmingham but I'll take it back to a London one.
