Protection

Maybe it’s because they’ve “protected” me so much from all the things that could even feel bad. Always complimenting me to the high heavens and saying they think I’m all that.

But even from just walking through the places of the internet and not engaging, one can see that people don’t simply hold positive opinions about people. So I anticipate, and even predict, what people might say to me that isn’t encouraging and friendly and kind. And I become those things.
