Lack of empathy

A collegemate of mine has a cancer.

When we went to college together, I got to know her. She was fucking annoying and entitled. She used to be very rude with people. Fast forward to 2021, she was diagnosed with cancer. I didn’t help her financially nor did I raise any fund at my university. My excuse was simple: I'm busy, Which I actually am.

Here's sth else I feel. I feel elevated when I see the news of her degrading physically everyday. I'm not v proud of that, but I can't help feeling it. Why should I be sad about someone who took pride in smashing ex bf's phone in a heated argument? Or not letting her bf go on a trip with friends? Why should I?
