the man, the myth, the legend: me

NOTE: hello, it is August 17, the date in which I am finally publishing this entry and it is important to note. That. I did not finish this, LOL.

1. I've driven the mass pike so many times now that I can roughly map out the geographies of different rest stops. The one that starts at L is the smallest, and all the businesses were closed except for the convenience store, but I also remember the big one with an always-empty atrium that has an Aunt Annie's in it, and I remember that in 2017, my New Visions class visited Providence to see Brown and the Body Exhibit and, on the way, we paused at this stop to pee and eat and such. And at this same rest stop, on the way to Boston on Friday, I bought some crab-flavored puff chips and chili-jalapeño plantain chips. The plantain chips were 10 times better. It's always a little weird to me, how plantains are too soft for satisfying snaps. I used to hate plantains. Whenever my mom cooked them, I'd hide in my room and hold my breath because the smell made me nauseas. Sometimes, I still don't like the grilled slippery sort of plantains, but I learned to like the dried chips when I was in Nicaragua. And they'd sell the chips in ziploc bags with repollo (means cabbage literally, but was more a cabbage and vinegar and cream mixture) and we'd eat them as sides with quesillo. I think. I dunno, it's been a very very long time.

Anyway, I think the plantain chips are my favorite on-the-way snack now. Though the knowledge has come just on the side of "too late"—familiarity with my environment in general is a too-late sort of vibe. I won't be here for much longer and I probably won't be visiting Boston again more than once or twice. But at least I'll be able to pick up some chips with my coffee, I guess.

2. On the way back home tonight, I was listening to this podcast called "Bandsplain" cover Modest Mouse. The episodes for this podcast are extremely long, which is kind of perfect for long drives. It sort of reminded me how into MM I used to be, though. I got home just as they finished getting through their discussion on Lonesome Crowded West, but tbh that's okay with me, because that's my favorite era of Modest Mouse music and after that—Moon & Antarctica and what follows—I still like it, but it's not my favorite. Moon & Antarctica was Mr. Sandwich's favorite album. My fav MM album is still, I think, This is a Long Drive. I also really like
