SHOPIFY SCAMS
More and more legitimate businesses are moving their operations to the Internet in the form of online stores. Unfortunately, scammers have also joined the movement offering everything from electronics to tools, drones, and other products that usually have a high price tag but are offered at a surprising discount. The price and the age of the website are the giveaways and as always, when something seems too good to be true it’s probably a scam. Most online store scams originate from China using Shopify as the sales platform.

Known Tactics

Online scammers often advertise on social media to redirect the victim to a new and cheaply designed website asking for personal information and either a credit card number or a prepaid debit card or PayPal transaction.
In some instances, the victim never receives anything, and the scammer disappears with the victim’s money and any personal or financial information they have collected.
In other instances, the victim receives a cheap knockoff or counterfeit version of the purchased item that is worth significantly less than what they paid.
A third possibility is what recently occurred when the victim receives seeds or a scarf instead of the high-priced electronics so the scammers can claim to their bank that the delivery was in fact made to the victim.
If you've ordered from such websites, haven't received your order and you are unable to reach out to the company for a refund, you should call your bank and ask them to reverse the transaction. Most banks are able to reverse unauthorized or fraudulent transactions for up to 6 months from the date of the purchase.
