Watch With Pride

Diem,

Today was a great day! I hung out around the house and started molding some model magic into fun earrings I'm giving my best friend when she comes over as a very belated birthday gift. I hope really hope she likes them

In the evening I moved my attention over to my laptop because GLAAD had a special early showing stream of the new High School Musical episode for Pride month. Some of the actors hung out and played trivia together - I was good on the answers but my internet could not keep up. Then the episode came on, everything was adorable, all the actors cried, I teared up, and Seb and Carlos snagged the title of "Disney's first on-screen kiss between two boys." And then the actors for those two did an interview and live performance and they surprised Frankie by having a surprise quinces celebration for HIM too

Now, I'm not going to praise Disney for doing the bare minimum here in allowing a couple that's been together for like, five or six months canon-time kiss because it's Pride month. The higher-ups definitely still have a problem of actively barring stuff that's "too gay" unless it's June and they think they can use it for token points. I sincerely doubt we will see Seblos kiss again, and the other, straight, couples will NOT be held to that restriction. I KNOW that Disney isn't some super supportive ally. But yes, I still teared up when they actually let the couple call each other their boyfriend and kiss on a Disney show. I didn't get to see other queer kids existing in shows for me when I was figuring stuff out - Like Joe said in the interview, anything that featured gay characters was aimed at older audiences because being gay was seen as "adult content." I'm so glad things have changed enough that kids nowadays get to see characters like them open and proud of who they are <3

Now I'm going to try and go to sleep, if I can ever get my head to stop looping "The Climb"
--M
