November 26, 2020:
The Cowboys continued a Thanksgiving halftime tradition, kicking off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign with a performance from country star Kane Brown.
But unlike normal years, that halftime show didn’t take place on the field due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, Brown performance was pre-recorded just outside AT&T Stadium in Dallas, with strobe lights and dancing cheerleaders to go along with his twang.
Brown joined a who’s-who list of country stars to features over the last two decades of performances, including Kenny Chesney, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Keith Urban. And the Salvation Army’s cause is one that speaks to Brown.
“There were times growing up when my family did not have enough to eat, or a roof over our head, and today, there are so many people in need. 2020 has been a hard year, but every small act of generosity helps,” Brown said in a release. “I am honored to have the opportunity to bring awareness to the ways people can help during this holiday season and beyond.” Brown is a 27-year-old originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He auditioned for The X Factor and American Idol, but he made a name for himself by covering popular songs and posting them to YouTube.
