Unusual mid day writing. ..

Unusual mid day writing. It's Friday and it's just three of us in the house. R has flown up to Chicago to help his dad with a few things around the house. I think he's getting buried in paper, and they need to organize some accounts so he doesn't end up with another unpaid bill and disconnected phone. He'll be back Monday night late.

Covid continues to be turning our little world upside down. Our neighbors across the street (who just moved into the house from a smaller house in the neighborhood a year ago), are moving to the Woodlands for some financial security. A questionable job that's located up there, and a house that can be pretty much paid off by the sale of their house for about twice the price of their new house. Another neighbor just lost his job, and while his wife does work, it's a county job and probably doesn't pay a lot.

And then of course there's us. R has been filling up his days with interviews with job owners as he decides which four postions he's going to apply for within the company now that his job has been elminated. His top choice is that of a coworker who didn't get cut, in the hopes that he is a better choice with more experience and better performance at this point in time. Such a horrible position for us and their boss, who will be one of the main decision makers.

We are pretty sure that he will not be putting any Louisiana-based jobs in his top four. We really don't want to move.

In other goings on, everyone in the school district is being asked to decide now, with very little information, whether we want to return to school face to face or continue virtual for the next six weeks. We have chosen virtual, but it is a terrible struggle for those who are considering returning when they cannot give us details on what school will look like, whether teachers will change, whether there will be overflow to other schools, etc., until they know how many are coming back. It is very possible that we could end up with a teacher from a completely different school.

Compounding things, I'm considering pulling P out of dual language because it just isn't working well virtually, and it doesn't seem like he knows anything after such a long break from the true immersion of being in the classroom. Would putting him back in the classroom help with this? Probably, but I'm not ready to have him back. We don't have a pressing need to put the kids in school, knowing that at least one of us will be home. And there are kids whose families really need them back on campus so they can work. But I'm mainly just not convinced it's a safe option at this time. Next year he'd also be thrown back into spanish Math, and struggling with both spanish and math does not sound like a good idea.
