A Problem With Industrial Restarting Of Economy

Dry title. Like hey let's go watch paint dry.

I have felt uneasy about going back to work sooner than the owner had originally requested. My boss and I are to work on a special order that entails much special machining and assembly. THEN a load of wood is SUPPOSED TO COME IN LATER in May and that is my primary work for the past 42 years. Wood inspection. Like anyone that may read this, you adapt and do what the employer wants you to do to keep the job. Thus, if they want me to do assembly ok sure I do it. Operating machines? Show me how.

On a small scale in going back to work I can see how things will be for the country if not all nations on an industrial scale. Ok so you have people that make a product but who will BUY IT? The product is there in a warehouse and now with so many sick and quarantined, who buys it? With so many businesses shut down who buys the product? What need or want is there for it?

Yes I will go back and finish a job and have material inspected and cut for assembly BUT WHO WANTS THE ASSEMBLED PRODUCT? The company cannot afford to pay people and it will be a big gamble. They cannot afford to pay for the raw materials until we can sell something to bring in cash. Limit the amount of workers to pay, keep it a skeleton crew. I had to LAUGH when I heard the company owner wanted to bring back one OLDER THAN I worker that could collect SS but continues to work but HE IS NOT NEEDED! Before we got laid off he was standing around reading a newspaper. 1 newspaper all day. Anyone reading this would grab their cell phone and read many papers. This guy? No. Not tech savvy. I am "old" but I did learn some basic computer skills. Sick bastard that I am I sleep with my phone. Not even sure why anymore. It's a connection with the outside world.

There is a connectedness in the world in which businesses are going to fail or flourish by DEMAND for product. My company makes building and industrial product. Not much industry happening now. The owner wants to keep a pulse going and get it off life support. He is constantly changing his mind. He is a trump supporter and thus to me he has to be a bit nuts if he believes in trump.

I will go in on the 11th and do my best. Try to get into good mental and physical shape between now and then. My work is often physically grueling. Funny how after being laid off a few weeks I MISS the many pains of work. The back, hip and shoulder pains. Sometimes the pains from my 2 hernias. Contrary to that for a man of 64 I think myself in good shape BECAUSE of the many years of hard factory work. I am a survivor.
