Fireworks

Just got back from the fireworks show at Montrose Harbor. It was pretty decent, and surprisingly enough, the park wasn’t monstrously crowded as I’d feared it would be. Managed to snag a pretty good viewing spot even though I didn’t leave until the last minute.

I’m so glad the city of Chicago decided, for the first time this year, to split up the annual fireworks into three smaller events, instead of one huge event downtown that attracted more than a million people each year. I never could bring myself to go to the Grant Park celebrations and brave all those crowds.

Plus I like having something to go to that’s so close to home, just a few blocks away. No battling traffic or braving crowded trains or buses. Easy walking distance, easy in, easy out. In total, I was gone less than an hour.

I was afraid the show might be cancelled, as it started to rain just before I left. But it only rained a little bit, and it didn’t last. It was unbelievably humid out, though… it felt like a sauna!

They had fireworks configurations I’d never seen before: smiley faces, rings around Saturn, red hearts encased in circles. Very imaginative.
