Game of Thrones (This WILL contain spoilers!)

I don't really know where to begin on this. Man, I fucking love this show. I'm so devastated it's over and devastated at the way things happened. It's such a shame. I wrote a post on Facebook because I'm a massive nerd and felt I needed to put something out there. It is :-

*WON'T CONTAIN SPOILERS* Despite the hate for Season 8 (from myself included), I genuinely enjoyed the last episode and thought they did the best they could with what they had left. The problem was never the writing, it was beautifully written. It was the manner that was the issue, it was how these events came to pass, it was the journey (or lack of it). We were used to events unfolding and really seeing serious character development. There was always meaning and purpose. Some events that happened didn't really add up and there was a lack of what can only be called 'payoff'. A lot of people, including myself still feel a little gutted and dare I say it, robbed?

I can understand why many people are upset and are demanding a do-over for Season 8, I do genuinely feel like that too. As I said though, the writing wasn't the issue. It was the pacing that was the problem. They should have dedicated another season or two and done things the right way.

So many things unanswered but, it is what it is. George R. R. Martin said himself, 'the show is the show and the books are the books. There are places where the two are going to diverge'. I am super excited to read them now and see where things really go. If you enjoyed Game of Thrones Season 8, that's awesome. If you didn't, that really sucks. It has left a very weird taste in my mouth, certainly not a satisfying one. That being said, one season will not taint this show. This show will be regarded as one of the greatest of all time, if not THE greatest. It's a blessing that we've been able to witness such wonderful storytelling.

Geek rant over

This entry however, will contain spoilers. I was upset with so many things this season; mainly Jaime and Cersei's demise, the disappointment of the white walkers, and the battle of Winterfell. I think maybe we get sucked into theories so much and writers simply feel they can't commit to a good, right and just thing because a theory has proven to be right. I feel that D&D (Writers) were not invested in this season enough. I say the writing is beautiful, and it is, but there some serious issues with this season. HBO and George R. R. Martin said they would have liked to have seen another two seasons,. that's honestly what they needed. Episode 5 is titled 'The Bells', it is regarded as the worst GoT episode of all time; not because of the writing but because of the timing and the manner of everything. Daenerys' descent to madness had to be built over a series of episodes, a season in my opinion, not in ten minutes. It's just not good enough and we honestly deserved better. Daenerys' becoming the main 'villain' was a foregone conclusion, it was always going to happen. It just needed to happen better.

I saw there is petitions demanding a re-write and it has over 900,000 signatures, probably so many more now. I understand and I do agree but sadly, I think we have to just call this now. Lets remember the amazing show for what it was, not let it be tainted by a season that simply wasn't good enough. I don't consider myself a 'die hard' GoT fan but I really do love this show. I identify with it so much, especially characters like Tyrion and Jaime. Game of Thrones has taught us so many different things, life lessons. I'm really sad that it's over. That being said, I can't wait to read the books now; I'm halfway through the first one and it is brilliant. I really hope people enjoyed Season 8 but I totally understand if they didn't. I personally won't forgive them for Jaime's demise, I was really upset with that.

I'm going to link 3 of my favourite pieces of music and head to bed. I somehow don't feel as disappointed as I feel I should. I guess I kind of admitted defeat and just bent over and took it.
