The Signal Fire

It has not taken long for promises of work on the island to be ignored. To restore order, I have prohibited speech unless you are in possession off the conch shell. This seems to be effective, and with it I decided we start taking initiative in efforts or being saved by creating a signal fire. Frustrating enough, Jack seems to only be interested in the killing of pigs rather than our mere survival and effort of rescue. When we made our descent up the mountain and formulated a fire, I ordered Jack and his boys to be in charge of keeping the fire aflame. As easy as this task was though to be, he was incapable of sticking to this task and managed to light a large portion of foliage on fire and neglect to notice the disappearance of one of the youngest litluns. Putting his own pride and desire to kill over the safety of everyone else has allowed me to see his true character and greatly enraged me. I hope to have made myself clear for I must take the responsibility for whatever goes right or wrong on this island. It has not been that long at this place for things to already begin going wrong. How must we survive, potentially forever, at this quaint place, especially with all of these young children who have the attention span and motivation as a squirrel. Already they have begun to spread rumors of "snakes" or "beasties" to fulfill their vulnerable little minds with great images of fear. This introduction of unnecessary nonsense has made it nearly impossible to assure them of reality and get things done.
