And Down She Goes...

I write you in mild pain today. One wrapped ankle, that is being elevated and iced, swollen up a bit now. One gnashed knee whose bandages are a couple of inches long so they can properly impede movement. Two abraided elbows, two abraided palms and a sheepish outlook on mid level hikes. It was cartoonish except for the amount of pain. I will be fine but likely laid up for a bit to heal up.

What happened? The hike was going along the less than ideal path just fine, we approached a fork in the road. As the marker was blocked by branches, we slowed and then my husband bent at the waist in my path so I veered, hit some uneven ground, rolled my ankle, and fell. Stupid, really, funny in a day or two after it heals, hopefully, scar free. The pain was bad, and sadly familiar. I have rolled both ankles multiple times so I am insanely great at falling now. Yes, that is a thing. Better to mildly roll ankle than tear a ligament, that I have managed only once as a teenager and that was adult levels of pain. This is minor, since I have experience I can now tell when I do it how bad it is going to be. Four days max than back out on the trail again.

Actually not to brag but I hiked the rest of the mid level trail using my man as a lean anyways. I mean I already fell, it couldn't really get worse and since it was mild, I thought why waste the 1/4 mile I already came. I was rewarded with a bloody sock and some severe stinging of the abrasions and field cleaned (water bottle cleaned) gnash on my knee. Once we reached the trailhead about a mile later I was a little sorry I had gone so far. The sting was kinda bad by then and when I saw the extent of the gnash, I did get a little overcome. It was my first bout of woozy over seeing blood I have had ever. You know that wasn't being in shock. LOL, seriously that is different.

My husband was a field medic so I have helped him when he puts in stitches, cleans wounds and have always been okay. One time he accidentally sprayed my face with blood and antiseptic and I did get nauseated. But this was an "I think I am going to pass out" moment. Complete with perplexed facial expressions, he had me walk to the car immediately and that helped. Once I could no longer see it and fixate on it, I was fine. The only other time was when I went into shock in Yosemite. That was a distinct going blind kind of numbing overall. This was specific which floored me. I am a voracious dry-heave kind of girl when there is too much blood, but all that is way after I dress the wounds and have a minute to myself. This was mid-dressing, I saw the wound and I started to freak out a bit. I asked if I need the ER and he said no and then I was not okay. I wanted to throw up and pass out simultaneously. Neither happened, thank goodness, but it was weird.

I find I can rest neither elbow on the armrest on the chair, can't rest either palm on the keyboard rests and seem to have a steady throbbing from my right knee and left ankle. Ay, yi yi! All things come to pass in Time. Great, I think I will lay down and let some time elapse. Wish me luck! Don't worry it is carpet from here to the bed. LOL.
