Stockcar Speedway Review. (Edited & Finished.)

Deep breath and here we go. Bit nervous. Don't have a tosser's clue as to how to go about this? So once again : Review writing Amanda22Jane style. Feeling shy and inadequate as usual.

Brief research intro. compliments of Wikipedia.

Relevant research.

WINGED SPRINT CARS.

"Sprint cars have a very high power-to-weight ratio, @ a weight of approx. 1,400 lbs (640 kg) (incl. the driver) for a 410 Sprint car, power outputs of over 900 horsepower (670 kW) are commonplace for these machines, which is around 140-340 more horsepower than a 2014 Formula One engine. [WOW!] Typically they are powered by a naturally aspirated, mechanically, fuel injected (methanol) American V8 with an engine displacement of 410 cubic inches (6.7L) capable of engine speeds of 9000 rpm. [WOW again!] Depending on the mechanical setup (engine, gearing, shocks etc.) & the track layout these cars achieve speeds in excess of 160 mph. [SUPER WOW.] ...
'Sprint cars do not utilize a transmission, they have [an] in or out gearbox & quick change rear differentials for occasional gearing changes."
(Wikipedia.)
This means they need to be push started, and begin each racing heat with a rolling start. Believe me, that is something to be seen. It's amazing. Once they enter the circuit they keep moving and never stop unless they're out-of-action.
"Sprint cars are high-powered race cars designed primarily for the purpose of running on short oval or circular dirt tracks. Sprint car racing is popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa." (Wikipedia.)

The Undisputed Truth.

As a point of outstanding and pertinent interest, New Zealand has "THE HIGHEST GOVERNING BODY OF SPEEDWAY" IN THE WORLD TODAY. (Thankyou Wikipedia for that undisputable fact. SO GET IT FUCKEN RIGHT AUSTRALIA!! I'm damn sick and tired of you lot trying to steal the limelight, not to mention our past historical stuff!! Phar Lap was ours, and so are PAVLOVAS!! along with a bunch of other stuff. Yeah, we'll rain on your parade ANY DAY!!. You want a political fight? Come and see me...I'll give you one.

SUPERSTOCKS.

"Superstocks are a premier class of New Zealand speedway (dirt track racing)."
Personal comment : Just to be anally correct Wikipedia, it's a compacted CLAY track. We refer to dirt as soil for garden beds. Clay compacts, dirt doesn't compact even half so well, and is a totally ineffective surface for a speedway environment.

"Superstocks weigh [between] 1400 to 1500 kg and are usually high powered with modified V8 engines of up to 248 cubic inches. Contact between cars can be rugged and is intended as part of the class." Wikipedia (2016).
"Rugged"? Wikipedia? That's too kind of you. You're telling me? No shit. It's downright violent and dangerous at the best of times. I forgot to mention rollcages as a vital safety feature too in speedway.

From the viewpoint of a retired Superstock racer. He portrays a picture that no history book details.
"The driver's seat is really good these days. They save them from the impact shock, plus the framework. When I was racing, the impact was like being hit in the back with a four-by-two." He doesn't look at me while he's talking and goes on to say, " After a while, you get tired of that, so I quit and I'm too old for it now...I am still a part of the stockcar scene. I like to keep involved by helping out with [hands on] stuff, and I get paid for it."

This wonderful man does a thorough, lone clean up of the venue next door, long after everyone else is gone. I met him yesterday afternoon when I went over there for a walk and decided to help out by picking up the cigarette butts and what was left of the small metal objects, like beer bottle caps so the tractor mower wouldn't damage its blades. He had already done a very thorough job of larger pieces as they're the culprits that do the real damage to the mower blades. Now. If that isn't continuing passion for the sports after retirement from racing, I don't know what is. I was on the spectator slope working when he called out to me. He was by the huge utility bins holding up a clear, plastic strip, so I could see it.
"Have you picked up any of these!?" I looked at it and called back, "Yes I have, what are they!?"
"These are clear vision protectors and they go over the safety helmet. Usually there's ten of them. When the top one gets dusty in the race, they rip it off. Then the next and so on." I wanted to say thankyou, but he'd turned away from the bin to leave the domain. Now that explains the fluttering strips of plastic I noticed on the track during the racing.

My friend? This following review is dedicated to you and the race commentator of this year's championships. My cap off to you both. (Very shyly).

STOCKCAR SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW.

Review Title : Action At It's Best.

By Amanda22Jane.

There is a sound of energy, which reverberates through the rugged annals of time. Many identify with the spirit that this type of entertainment provides, and it is not for the faint-hearted : ironic that it's a family affair. It extends beyond a journey tavelled deep into the heart of passion that many do not understand, yet us speed-lovers do. Without a doubt, the excitement generated by speed enthusiasts belies nothing more than the thrill of speed in itself and the unique source from which that issues : Stockcars.
The smell and taste of competition is an experience that not many savour as excitement nor endurance of the human spirit, yet I hope it ripples outward to an enquiring audience.
Once you catch this feeling in your heart, the floodgates open to an experience of high-octane, adrenaline-fuelled activity which dances with flames, high-speed collision, professional showmanship and speed.
Several thousand spectators were treated to two consecutive nights of speed heroism, that extended beyond the everyday norm of living. It was an escape into a unique world of cars. Stockcar racing is undisputably, a springboard for inspiration. We're talking about compact machines that race in a compact environment of concrete and dust at very high speeds on a compact clay oval. By any human means, this sounds like total insanity : yet it is, by a lazy stretch of the imagination, all too real.
Children are thrown candy, and run full tit, like ants to sugar, to the scene of EVERY accident ; the adults weren't impartial to doing it either : a side entertainment in itself, along with some children who preferred to play rather than watch the racing. The baby wrapped in his blanket, complete with a dummy and industrial earmuffs, made an endearing focal point against a backdrop of roaring blurs.
Tractors kept rolling with the damage control and a mini dozer and water tankers kept the track rideable. Flags and a rolling commentation kept us well-informed and on the edge of our asses. The crowd of thousands curved the spectator slope, and the alcohol, camera flashes and fumed air grew stronger with the darkening night.
As clay chunks, dust and debris settle, and the roaring ceases, so does my writing.

Personal critique : not a true review writing model I know. Not an objectively-driven work either and I don't care. I've loosely applied the terms and shaping of a review to this attempt. Slaved over this for several hours before and after midnight, plus I'd had a few wines. Evidentially, writing IS legitimate hard work.
