doesn't define me."
Mental illness
is not my head,
mental illness
is not my heart,
mental illness
is not my personality.
Mental illness
is mental illness.

Neither does
mental illness dictate
what I value
ethically,
morally,
and temporally.
I have
been diagnosed
with a triple challenge
and it is,
what it is.
To some,
I may be seen
as a social leper.
Voice-hearers
are commonly feared
more than respected
as "full citizens"
(Eleanor Longden).
This is not
my lack
of education
and understanding,
it belongs
to those
who think otherwise
about voice-hearers
and whether
those opinions
and prejudices
are duly informed
and educated
or lost on
unreasonable
bias.

Why should I
internalize their shit
and make myself
all wrong,
or sicker,
or more screwed-up
and leave myself
wide open
and vulnerable
to insensitivity?
It's
a proven fact
that most,
if not every,
voice-hearer
has
experienced trauma
early in life
and THAT'S
where
the origin lies.
In trauma.
Usually
early life trauma.
Trauma-based psychosis.
However,
in some cultures
voice-hearers
are seen
as gifted individuals.
I most certainly
roll with that.
In Maoridom,
Aotearoa,
(New Zealand),
the term 'matakite'
is what
voice-hearers
were known as.
There has been
a revival
in the use
of 'matakite'
in contemporary
mental health units
today
in
Aotearoa
New Zealand.
Other cultures
celebrate
voice-hearers
as well as Maoridom
and most,
if not
all cultures
would have
a special term
for voice-hearers.
Unfortunately,
a polarity of voices
comes with the territory
of voice-hearing :
there are good,
helpful,
truthful,
entertaining,
beautiful voices
and there are dark,
evil,
menacing,
rageful,
hateful voices too.
Some of these voices
can appear
as Angels of Light,
though
they're nothing
but smooth-talking bullshitters.
The voice of lies
I call them ;
the silver-tongued serpent.
The Voices of Angels
versus
The Voices of Demons.

The dark side
I live with
no more.
Voice-free of evil
for well over
three years now.
