A Life Unexpected.

Growing, living is about growing not diminishing. I have everything an adolescent could desire. I live in a beautiful shelter, in which surplus is endlessly provided. Above all I have a caring family that loves me relentlessly. Meanwhile I only had one job! Which is to follow the rules, something I chose not to follow. I was once a runaway that left home with no place to go.

This late afternoon, I sit down in my office; gazing at my first scholarship application. Suddenly my phone rings; it is my boss, Elva Lopez. For the past three in a half weeks I have been tutoring her six year old son how to learn English. I get two text from Amna and Vanessa that ask whether I will be attending track conditioning. Of course, I must practice what I love.

I take a sip of my coffee and gaze back in time and wonder. What caused such a tremendous change? I always said yes to life, because why not? Today I have said no over 1,000 times.

One morning I woke up and was crazy enough to believe I could change the World. Being naïve, I knew the idea was outrageous: absolutely obscure. I said, "In order to change this World I must change myself." I shut out the things that wasted my time. Including dozens of companions, I even cut off many of my lovers. Such as one of my most precious jewels, Manuel Perez. I have my word in remembering the momentums we once shared. I shall always recall and appreciative when I felt hunger; he made me peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Temporary bliss must come to an end. I learned how to say no thank you, and that has become one of my secrets to success.

~Yours Truly,
