Back to work

As of yesterday my Christmas vacation is over and I went back to work after 12 days off. I am taking it pretty easy these first two days back. Especially since there are still many that took the extra two days off.

My last 6-7 days of my Christmas break were spent replacing plumbing, bathroom floor, and toilet in the downstairs batheroom. For someone that is experienced in this type of repair this would probably have been a couple of hours job.

Well, I ain't that guy. I let the job intimidate me to the point I almost wanted to shut down. But my supportive wife wouldn't let that happen. She just kept reminding me that it had to get done.

I have to admit that I was irritated that it seems everyone else can say "I am not comfortable doing this." and can shift the job to someone else. I have experienced it at work time and time again, and at home as well. I seldon, if ever get to say "this is beyond my skill set, I need to have someone else do this."

But, at home, and at work as well, when I am not allowed to quit (even when I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown)I eventually work through it all.

I should be thankful that people have such faith in me, but part of me would like to be allowed to be weak once in a while.

Well, I finally got the bathroom repairs done. Is it perfect? No. Is it acceptable? Yes. And my body hurts like I have had an intense "basic training" workout at the gym. So I came back to work, and sit at my desk all day these two days so that I can rest up from my vacation.

I must say, with my current skill set, if I were to get a plumbing job I definitely want to get paid by the hour and not by the job.
