2 Timothy

The book of 2 Timothy was written by the apostle Paul to Timothy while Paul was imprisoned and shortly before he was put to death. Paul encourages Timothy to remain passionate in Christ and firm in the Christian doctrine. Paul reminds Timothy to flee from ungodly beliefs and immoral practices. Paul also goes on to say that in the end times there is going to be intense persecution and turning away from God from the Christian faith.
Versus 3-15 speaks of evil men and deceivers. This speaks to the many people who think that they are grounded in faith but are fooled, or are actively fooling others. This often leads to false doctrine or a misinterpretation of Gods word. But because these people appear good, others believe them, and fall into their lies. That’s why it is important to know the word of God. There is the need to be grounded in truth, and possess the ability to recognize people who are deceivers. Deceivers are recognizable because what they say does not come from Gods truth.
Versus 16-17 speaks to all scripture coming from God and not from Men. The Bible is unique in its continuity. It was written by many different authors over a span of time and yet the book reflects the unity of one message. Wisdom comes from knowing scripture and the Bible is the guide that God provided in order to prepare us to walk in righteousness.
The Bible gives us reproof and correction. It tells us when we are wrong in our thinking or conduct. The Bible gives us instruction in righteousness and tells us how to live rightly before God and men. It is easy to get side-tracked in the Christian life. We have to remind ourselves that our focus is to be with Jesus in heaven. We must strive to avoid both false doctrine and ungodly practices. This can only be accomplished by being grounded in our knowledge of God’s Word and firm in our refusal to accept anything that is unbiblical. When we come to the Bible and let God speak to us, it changes us, makes us complete and transforms us. It is important to read the Bible because even when we don’t understand the Bible intellectually, it is still working on us spiritually. We are potentially living in the last days and these are perilous times full of temptation and deceit. We must stand firm in the things that we know to be true through the foundation of Gods instructions. Our houses need to be built on rock and not sand in order for us to stay on the path that leads to God.
