Talk of war, we might be moving north

Honestly, the big excitement revolving around King Edward’s (King Edward the Confessor as he is better known) death and the witenagemot pronouncing Harold Godwinson as the new king, is something I find to be overkill. I realize that he’s the youngest king we’ve ever had and all, but all of England seems caught up in his youth. They celebrate his coming as king and mourn the death of his predecessor while at the same time they question his right to rule over us.
Mother and Father took me and Gabe to go observe not the king, but rather the people who were observing the king. Apparently by coming only two hours early we were the very last to arrive. (Even at an Adair Stone concert, two hours early would mean first in line). We arrived last night at about eleven and I slept until nine this morning because I was so tired.
Constant chatter has spread about like a disease through our neighborhood and my school. (The school I attend is called Waynefellow Christian School, established 2019). Currently England fears attack will come from the south by the Normans, (yes, they’ve reformed and come back twice as strong as the last time), and we’re afraid that the Normans might break the no-fire arm law.
I’m not sure if you’ve covered this in school yet, you being thirteen and all, but it was internationally agreed on that no country was authorized to be holding fire arms or explosives of any kind. The governments of every country sought out and destroyed every fire arm for a period of twenty years (I was alive during the final year). Now wars are fought with shield and sword which I don’t really understand, but no one listens to a fifteen year old boy’s perspective.
Because everyone’s so paranoid about this attack, school gave us all packets as thick as tires to work on while school is closed. Everyone is watching the television eagerly to find out updates about the king (we’ve watched for close to six hours and only found out that he’s going to be crowned in Westminster Abbey) and updates about the non-existent war.
Worst of all, I heard Mother and Father talking about moving to Scarborough so as to avoid the war! This has gone on too long!
