Living in the South

What a day this has been. The heat outside is scorching and the humidity is so heavy that you can hardly breath. Welcome to my world here in Louisiana.

People tend to believe that we, in the South, are a bit loony, well, duh. If you lived in this heat, which boils your brain once you are out in it, you would be a bit mentally challenged, too.

No matter the weather, I still love living here. I have a home on a bayou that is filled with one Alvin the alligator. He was just a baby when we first moved here but he has grown A LOT. We are thinking about having him captured and sent to the town zoo.

As I sit on my deck, there are birds galore, bees, lizards, ducks, egrets, fish, quails, squirrels, and doves wandering around near the lawn and the bayou. I am living in a zoo.

I live out in the country, which I love but find the drive into town a bit uncomfortable because it takes a while to get there. Well, it's not that far away but takes about twenty to thirty minutes to get to the stores.

I have traveled quite a lot and seen some of the world, but still prefer to come back to the South. Someone once asked me why I stay here what with all of the hurricanes, mosquitoes, snakes, and heat. I responded that I had to live here because it was the only place where everyone talked like I did....with a long drawl.

When most people away from here, hear my drawl, they automatically think I am retarded. I tell them, "I am Southern, not stupid." I am not married to my cousin, do not eat dirt, and am not prejudiced.

Hopefully, I can fill you in on more of this life I lead.
