SURPRISE.... Or Not

"Here little Jedi," I heard Byrec call from somewhere around the
corner.
"I'm playing hide and seek. Find me, Sith," I called back using
the Force to project my voice so it sounded like it came from
everywhere. That would confuse him for a moment. Turning left and
right, somehow able to keep a good lead, I tinkered with my
lightsaber. The magnetic stabilizing ring was damaged, along with the
focusing crystal activator. Seemed like the primary crystal mount was
also knocked around. I cursed under my breath. My master was going to
kill me, if Byrec didn't first. And I left my spare in my cloak, which
was still upstairs in my room. Hey, running around a maze in the
middle of a winter night in a red ripped tank top, black torn
leggings, and barefooted was NOT my idea!
Crunch, crunch, crunch! His footsteps were getting louder,
quicker, and closer in the snow. Might even be beyond the bush. I
froze, bare feet freezing in the snow, quieting my heavy breathing
from running, and hoping he didn't hear my heart beat. I swallowed a
cough building up in my throat. "Where are you, you annoying little
brat," he hissed. I held my breath. Crunch, crunch, crunch. He walked
away. I let out a breath and ran the opposite way. Just find the exit
or entrense. He can't guard both exits. I came to an intercection. I
looked around, wondering which to choose. I looked to my right. Byrec
was coming up that path. I looked behind me, and Byrec was walking
away, but still there. And I looked in front of me and Byrec was
walking up to me, looking in all the passage ways. 3 of him? Had he
learned to make copies of himself?! But he made the choice for me. I
ran left. Crunch crunch crunch, my feet made. "Hey! There she goes!
Get her," one of the Byrecs shouted. Oh this was not good. I was
getting more lost as I turned the corner, comming face to face with
more green dead ends than I could count. I turned right. Hey, wasn't I
just here? I looked behind me. 6 were now closing in. Think fast.
'Jump', the Force told me. I looked up and jumped. I flipped twice
and landed outside the maze. HA! "Well, well, well. Look what we have
here."
I flinched and turned around. 3 of them. It wasn't six. Just three.
I tried to ignite my lightsaber but it wouldn't activate! They just
laughed and each ignited an identicle blade. I swallowed hard.
Ultimate tourney.
"Hmm. What to do? There are 3 of you, and only one of me," I mused.
They laughed. "Whats a girl like me to do?" They closed in on me.
'Now' the Force said in my head. They were close enough. I slipped
through the Byrec in front of me's legs and kicked him forward. He
stumbled but didn't fall. Fine with me. As he stumbled I knocked the
feet right out from under him, and he landed face first in the snow.
He sure felt real alright. Then the two came at me from the sides,
snapping out of the surprised shock I gave them. They swiped at the
same time, the idiots, and I simply jumped gracefully, and they caught
eachother. They grunted and fell to the ground on top of the first
Byrec. I smiled. Apparently one of them had dropped their lightsaber.
I caught it in the air. It was red, but it'll have to do. I took it,
held it up proudly, and bowed grinning to an imaginary cheering crowd
like at the tourney. Thats when I heard a slow rhythmic clapping. I
gasped, caught off guard, and looked up. The real Byrec.
"So, you've learned a few new tricks. Lets see how you fair with a
lightsaber," he challenged. He ignited the blade. So did I. This
lightsaber actually worked, even though it felt weird in my hands. It
had a handle coming off the side, which was how you were supposed to
hold it, not by the hilt. I held on and got used to the feel of it in
my hands. Thats when he ran at me. I turned the blade to block and he
counter attacked and swiped at my feet, ducking down as I swiped at
his head. I jumped, and brought the lightsaber down on him but he
rolled away.
I took the half second to tear off the handle so it was just the
hilt. It was better. "You have bad taste in lightsabers," I grinned. I
spun and leaped over him so my back was against his. Where ever he
turned, he couldn't get a good angle on me and I was able to block
everything. He did the same and was able to get in front of me before
I could turn around. Sensing a blade fly my way, I let the Force guide
me. I could tell it was a horizontal sweep at my stomach. I ducked. He
grazed the top of my head, singeing the top of my hair, but missing
me. I then stood up and blocked him, holding his blade at a weird
angle to him. I then let the hilt of the lightsaber hit his face. He
grunted and stumbled back. I grinned. Blood trickled down his nose and
a black spot was already forming on his face. Ouch.
"You'll pay for that, Jedi scum," he growled.
"Listen to you! Not an hour ago you caused no trouble with us and
now you act as if you don't even know us," I told him.
"I don't need to know you when I'm about to kill you," he growled.
"But you DO know me," I retorted.
"Not since you became a weak little girl with Lane and your new
master to protect you," he glared.
He swung at me and I blocked it and was able to return an attack
in just a flick of my wrist. He managed to block it. Then he lunged at
me and I blocked it and he pushed on his blade. We glared at
eachother. But both of our energies collided and we were pushed back a
little. He swung at my head, I blocked. He swung at my feet, I
blocked. Then like a baseball bat, he swung at my head. It was too
quick and too strong to block so I ducked, squatting down. He swiped
at my feet, low, which would have cut me in half. I jumped up, placing
my left hand down on the ground, kicking my feet up and he swiped at
only air as I flipped back on one hand. He swung like a baseball bat
again at my head. It would have been stupid to go through all of it
over again so I just leaned back and he missed my chest. Then he
kicked my gut, sending my flying back. With reflexes like his, no
normal person could stand a chance. I was glad I had Jedi reflexes. As
I finally got my feet on the ground, he threw his red lightsaber at
me. I leaped up and laid flat in the air as it soared under me. He
then pushed me back again into the wall of the castle. He was good.
Maybe better than the Ewok. But maybe thats because the Ewok wasn't
actually trying to kill me.
I was finally gaining ground, as I swiped and he lept back. I then
ran backwards to the wall. I jumped and ran up the wall. I lept off,
performed 2 perfect back flips and now it was him who was backed up
against the wall. I held the red lightsaber at his throat and cornered
him against the wall of the castle.
"Give up, Byrec," I said. "You've lost."
"This isn't one of your tourney battles," he sneered.
"Hello? Alix? Whats all the ruckus out here about," I heard Trixie
call out as she stepped out. Byrec saw her.
"And I'll prove it to you." He used the Force to grip her and hold
her, choking her.
"Hey! Let go! Alix," Trixie cried, squirming.
"Byrec! Let her go, now," I shouted at him.
"You have a choice. The antidote, or her," he challenged, pulling
out the antidote. It was a liquid so if it broke, that would be it and
we were all dead. I didn't much care for Trixie anyway, even still.
But Lane did. "10 seconds," he sneered.
Thinking fast, I shot lightning at him. He cried out and with both
hands holding someone, he couldn't block it. While Trixie was set free
and fell to the ground coughing, I was able to catch the antidote. I
put it in a pouch on my belt. But Trixie wasn't breathing. I ran over
to her. I tried to get her to wake up but she wouldn't. "Come on
Trixie. Get up. Trixie! Wake up," I yelled. Nothing worked. Tears
filled my eyes.
I then felt lightning attack my back. I cried out in pain and
rolled out of the way to avoid a lightsaber. I lay on the ground and
Byrec loomed over me. "Now, it is your end," he sneered. He raised his
lightsaber up, ready to impale me. I threw the lightsaber I was using
up. It pierced his chest and a twisted look of pain and shock was easy
to recognize on his face. He dropped his lightsaber which fell with a
FSHHH to the ground, retracting. It missed me. He staggered backward
and held the wound. He looked at me with twisted hate. He held up a
blaster of his own and I managed to throw my lightsaber at him again.
He didn't live through this one. He fell with a groan to the ground,
the smell of seared skin filling the air. Byrec was dead. Dead. TRIXIE!
I ran to Trixie. I looked up and Lane was being wheeled out.
"Alix? What are you doing standing? It takes at least two days to get
better and stand." He pointed out. Then he saw the dead body of Byrec,
and Trixie. "TRIXE," he shouted. He leaped out of the wheel chair,
stumbled, and struggled to stand on his feet, but he made his way next
to Trixie. "What did you do....? WHAT DID YOU DO?!"
"Lane, calm down, I didn't do any-"
Suddenly his lightsaber was pointing at my throat. "Heal her."
"Lane, I can't! She's-"
"I SAID HEAL HER! Bring her back to me.... NOW!" He brought the
lightsaber close to my neck, so I could feel the heat. There was pain,
confusion, hate, and loss in his eyes. "One of us will go with her if
you don't. Either you or I will go with her! Or both of us! You killed
her, it should be fair."
"Lane! Get a grip on yourself," I shouted at him. He glared at me.
I took a deep breath and looked up at him. "Sleep," I ordered.
Suddenly he fell to the ground, sleeping. This time, I made no effort
to catch him. Jedi mind trick. Normally it won't work on other Jedi.
It only works on the weak minded. But he was weak minded there. His
will was gone, his sure thoughts were gone, he was confused, scared,
afraid, hopeless, and just in shock. I didn't need another lightsaber
at my throat right now. "Alright Trixie. Please only be mostly dead.
Not all dead," I hoped. I laid my hands on her, and willed all of my
energy inside her, to kick up her heart, and get her lungs moving
again. I used a very very small amount of lightning to do it. I even
tried CPR. After 10 minutes, she came back, gasping for breath and
life. "Take it easy. Relax," I told her. Lane had woken up now. He
looked down at Trixie.
"Trixie! My love, I'm so glad you're alright," he said, taking her
hand, kissing her on the lips.
"Oh brother," I mumbled. I had a long night and my feet felt
FROZEN! "I'm going inside love birds. You're welcome to make out here
in the cold snow. By all means. But if you want to know the story, and
stay warm, then when I'm gone make out, then follow me inside," I
said. My teeth were chattering. I went inside, after taking Byrec's
lightsaber. It was a very very long night.
