-.- I Lied Infront of Brooks- Bad Mommy

I strolled back into the hut casually, as if nothing had happened.
Yeah, right. Brooks followed shyly behind me. He didn't know them.
Heard about them, sure. But he didn't truly know them.
"I'm back," I called smiling, holding Brooks' hand.
"So I see. And who is this," Lane asked tonelessly raising an
eyebrow. I wasn't sure if he was upset, disappointed, disapproving,
annoyed, or not feeling at all.
"Brooks, meet Lane. Lane this is Brooks," I smiled. I held Brooks
out in front of me, still close, and I placed my right hand on his
shoulder, while I crossed my fingers behind my back with the others.
"Alix, what have you been up to now," Lane demanded. My heart
froze. Well, Lane, I had gotten pregnant, had this child, and I am
currently trying to get you to like him and accept him. Gulp. Like I
could tell him that! I would DIE! But he only looked up at me and
smiled jokingly. I quietly let out a sigh of relief. "Where did he
come from," Lane asked. From inside me. No, I couldn't say that
either. Relax Alix! You're too tense! Keep this up and Lane will sense
it and read your thoughts again. Relax and think positive confident
thoughts.
"Probably nothing you'll hate me for. I found him. He was in the
forest running out of fear from this shadow thing. I protected him and
offered him a place to stay. He said he never had a mother and his
father passed away," I explained. Yep. It was a lie. Well, some of it.
"Would that be the 'shadow thing' that I scared off once before by
any chance? I'm sure the Ewoks would be glad to take him in and look
after him. After all, Glax looked after me. Sylis, come to me, little
one," Lane ordered. I didn't like the idea of being separated though.
"Alix, its too dangerous to take a padawan at the moment. Particularly
with the threats against me and you," Lane reasoned. As if I forgot!
Timing couldn't have been any better!
"Well, yeah, maybe the Ewoks can help. And I'm not sure if this
shadow was yours or not. They are quite easy to make, really," I said,
avoiding what he was saying.
"OK, well, Brooks tell me about this shadow. And Alix you will
need to wait 'till all of this is over to take him as your padawan.
Where is Sylis," Lane asked.
Not only did this mother lie. She told her son to lie too! "I was
walking around, searching for food, and this dark figure thing jumped
from the tree. I tried to hold it off but sticks and rocks went right
through it and I got scared and ran. I cried out and I guess she heard
my call and came to save me. It was just perched in the tree though.
Thats all there is to tell," he explained. Wow! By the sad scared look
on his face, I would've believed him. I almost did! I would have to
watch out for that.
"I know, Lane. But I am more sure of this, than I am anything else.
Where do you think Sylis is," I smiled and nodded to Sylis' house.
"Hmmm sounds like the same one I chased off. I'm going to go have a
look for it, in a bit and I will deal with this shadow. OK Alix, well
as long as you accept you need to wait to have him as padawan," he
warned me again. That was what? 3 times now? Lane called Sylis to get
her chocolate and she opened her door quickly, reaching for the ball
of chocolate.
"I know. And it very well could be," I said, talking about the
shadows. I looked to Brooks and nodded. We exchanged silent words. I
knew what he was saying, and he could tell mine. Oh how he reminded me
so much of his father.
"And Brooks? You will now stay here with the Ewoks and be safe.
From now on Glax and her family will look after you," Lane told him.
But no matter how much Lane had told me I couldn't keep Brooks around,
I refused to let Brooks stay with the Ewoks. He wasn't Lane! He needed
a family, he needed me. I needed him! I wouldn't let an Ewok family
take care of him, he'd feel too out of place. I didn't approve. And
being his mother, I have a say in the matter. Alsten and I had a few
things in common. One of them, was our devoted mix of determination
and stubbornness.
"Lane... can't he stay here with us? If only for a few nights," I
asked. I was practically begging. I didn't want to demand Lane to let
Brooks stay, but I knew I would when needed. This was my last resort
before I proved to everyone I was his mother.
Sylis came out of her house. "Awe! She's cute! Is she yours,"
Brooks asked opening up a little. He was a smart boy. He noticed the
connection between Lane and Sylis and he knew to exploit that to his
advantage.
"Yes Brooks. She is ours. Her name is Sylis and shes a munyip. A
young munyip, but very smart," Lane explained.
"She is very sweet. May I pet her," Brooks asked. I beamed. I don't
know what Alsten did to that boy, but Brooks had really good manners!
May I instead of Can I is more polite and gentle. Way to go Brooks!
"Sylis, be a good little girl and say hello to Brooks and be nice.
He's had a rather bad scare, little one, OK," Lane told Sylis. I
noticed he must have been tired.
I wasn't worried about Brooks and Sylis one bit. Sylis was gentle
and sweet and easy to love, and Brooks needed someone to love. They
got along perfectly. Brooks had his father's connection with animals.
Brooks giggled as Sylis tickled his neck with her fur and he pet her.
Lane seemed to warm up to Brooks for that.
Lane turned to me. "I guess so Alix. But then he must go with Glax
OK? He will be safe with them and she can introduce him to the
family." I know Lane just wanted this matter to be over with and he
wanted no questioning. He wanted Brooks safe.
"Thank you, Lane," I smiled at him. I would get to spend some time
with my son after all! It seems that even if I only get to see him for
a short while, he is quickly taken away from me afterwards. "And yes,
then I will allow him to go with Glax." Another lie. May the Force be
with you.
