Journal of a Jedi Padawan

You Never Truly Forget....

Yes, I visited my old padawan today. Byrec was fighting
Rena and I stood in the doorway, watching. I was amused. She
was yelling at him while he was working up a sweat.
"You can do better! Faster! And this time, NO MISTAKES,"
she ordered harshly. He said nothing back, just swung his
lightsaber precisely and hitting the mark. "NO! Snap your
arm! Raise your elbow! Feet apart! Do you have a death wish?!"
"No, master," he responded while panting. He was tired
and it looked like he had been fighting for hours straight.
He was drenched in sweat, his arms were sagging ever so
slightly, and his breathing was hard but focused. Most of
the time the lightsaber was a blur of green. He DID work
hard when he did something. Always trying to do it right.
Not wanting to interfere or break his concentration I
stood in the door way, watching quietly, very amused. His
steps were light but firm, his moves were swift but
efficient, and his choice was more attack rather than block.
Although he could block what the droid threw at him, he used
used the droid's energy to retaliate. The look in his eyes
were nothing but pure concentration, focus, determination,
and perfection. He knew Rena would not let him make a
mistake. He knew Rena expected perfection, and nothing less.
Although his routine was almost perfect, and his eyes
were focused, his energy was slightly weak. He was tired.
But she wouldn't have it. "Faster! Quicker! Raise your arms
higher," she commanded. He did as he was told. I almost felt
sorry for him. Almost. "No. Come here," she instructed. He
went to her. "Stand like you are going to attack me," she
commanded. He faced her, turned to the side, showed his
right hip placed his blade a foot away from his neck, held
his elbows out, widened his legs, turned his feet out, and
stared into her eyes. "No. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! "You
are far too open. You are exposed," she said as she quickly
pinched each area he was open. The leg, side, stomach, and
she hit his head. When she pinched him, she was fast. He
didn't have time to react or wince.
"Yes, master. I'm sorry master. It's just that I," he
started. She wouldn't have it.
"No excuses! When you are being attacked, there will be
no excuses, do you understand," she shouted.
"Yes, master." He made adjustments to her orders. You
could tell he was having it rough, and wasn't liking it. He
wanted to rebel, and say something to prove to her he was
doing something right, but he knew he shouldn't. He looked
tired and sore.
"Show me your routine again," she ordered. She was
drilling him. She was like a Maldorian Sargent, and by the
look of it, she was Maldorian. I had a feeling she knew I
was there, but said nothing. She didn't even turn to glance
at me. I can say many things to that. "Cold, much?" "Can you
be any rudder?" Or even something like, "Good to see you
too." But, I held my tongue and respected her. The Council
trusts her, so there must be a reason, right?
She was keeping Byrec so busy, he didn't even notice me.
I'm sure she wasn't trying to. Maybe I just came at a bad
time? But still, I felt slightly disappointed. After all, he
was my old padawan, no matter how much he changed in the
explosion. I watch him to know that he is safe and learning.
And so I will never forget him. The real time you forget
someone, is when you don't think about them anymore. I still
thought about him, whether I wanted to or not. Besides, he
choose, and I wanted to see if he thought he made the right
one. No, I don't expect him to come back to me. No, I don't
want the satisfaction of him saying that he made a mistake
by choosing her. And no, I don't want to get revenge. I was
there for good hearted purposes. I wanted to see how things
were going for him.
I stayed a little while to watch him. He never knew I was
there. I would rather it stay that way. He shouldn't know,
it would only make things harder for the both of us. So, I
guess it's good he didn't see me. After a while, I left. I
had other things to do too. Errands, meditate, and discuss
with my master about the mission with Nydo.
Yes, tomorrow is when we set off. The sooner the better
right? I will probably stop by to watch Byrec train before I
leave. I want to see if he actually gets it right. Maybe
even say hi before I leave. He changed and isn't the Byrec I
knew, but he still knows me. I hope the mission goes well.
May the Force be with you!
