Graduation day!

Sunday, June 27th
6:17pm

The graduation ceremonies were held today!

I was very excited before we went out to the turf where it
was held. I cheerfully chatted with my fellow grads, happy
to see that they were just as susceptible to talk
(considering I didn't know them so well!). We were all in
messy lines of two, I was on the left line. It was
disgustingly hot and humid outside, probably the worst
weather conditions possible for the two hour event. As I
walked out I could hear the faint tune of Pomp and
Circumstance from the concert bands, and at that moment I
felt like a true graduate.

I found my parents easily, there were sitting over on the
bleachers diagonal to my seat. Admittedly, the whole process
was very boring and hot. I enjoyed listening to the student
and principal speeches, but the supervisor had this LONG and
BORING speech about things I can't even remember. He noted
how when he became supervisor, we were entering
kindergarten. That was his signal to talk about a time line
of events from 1997 to 2010. It was quite morbid. All his
events had to do with people dying, school shootings,
hurricanes, and disease. True, these things happen, but is
that what you really want to discuss to a bunch of college
bound 18 year old's?

Where I was sitting was entertaining. Of course I got placed
with all the rowdy boys in my grade, constantly shouting out
random phrases and whooping.

Once all the speeches were done we finally got called up to
get our diplomas. I was glad to hear the lady pronounce my
name right. This whole process took about an hour. After
that the principal went up to the podium and said a few
final words. Everyone was anticipating those last words,
probably because they all wanted to go home and take a
shower. Finally, my principal said "I now congratulate you,
Class of 2010." An eruption of cheers and shouts followed,
along with caps flying in the air. I threw my cap up high
and felt relieved: I FINALLY did it!

After finding my cap I went to congratulate my friends. I
saw Tom and Michelle and gave them big hugs. I will miss Tom
a lot, we've spent four years together in band and pit
orchestra. After I saw Nicole, Gabi, Ivan, and other people.
I hugged Nicole, and then after I saw Gabi and almost cried.
My best friend since elementary school, and now we're all
grown up. She hugged me tight and kissed my cheek, and we
giggled and cried. It was a bittersweet moment. Once I saw
all the people I wanted to see I took some pictures and then
found my parents to go home. I was disappointed my sister
didn't come, but apparently she had work to do so I can't
completely hold it against her. I also wanted my boyfriend
to come, but he's in Montaulk anyway so he couldn't. My
parents are exactly the cheeriest, they calmly said
congratulations and led the way to the car.

After we went to Grill Fire, a casual restaurant. The food
was good and I had a brownie and cotton candy for dessert.
When I got home and took off my sandals I found an obnoxious
tan line on my foot. They look like zebras! That will have
to be fixed stat. The sun and heat has made me exhausted,
but I can't nap. I napped yesterday from 5:30 to 8 and I
didn't fall asleep till 3am this morning, it was so
annoying! Anyway, I'll be busy talking to my boyfriend for a
while, then I guess I will try and relax a bit and go to bed
early.

TTFN.
