Crap Story I Started Around 7th Grade 7...

{13} Jason

His father walked into the dining room with his cousin. “Hey
Jakey, hope I didn’t make you wait too long.”
“It’s okay, I just went ahead, if you don’t mind,” he was
staring at his food when he realized that he had been poking
it into a mushy state. “Oh,” he whispered to his plate. He
put his fork down.
Jason’s father took his usual place on the right as asked as
he sat, “So, how’s the food?” Seeing Jason’s plate, “Mashed
vegetables? Hmmm, well if it came from Jimmy’s kitchen I’m
sure it’s good. Oh,” Jason looked up to see his father
indicate Mainel to the seat across from him, “that’d be your
seat from now on.”
Mainel pulled her seat and sat to face Jason. She smiled,
trying to make nice, and Jason did so as well. “Help
yourself,” his father said as he put food on his plate.
Jason watched as Mainel began to pile her plate with food,
“Don’t be shy now,” Jason said sarcastically. He felt his
father’s foot kick him from under the table. Jason shot his
father a glare but stopped.
“A healthy appetite, now that’s more like it!” Jason’s
father almost boomed.
Mainel gave an embarrassed chuckle, “Heh haven’t really
eaten any ‘real’ food in a while,” she explained.
“No need to explain anything at all, my dear.” Jason noticed
the gentle smile his father gave his ‘cousin’ as he called
her “my dear.”
“How are you two related again?” Jason asked. “I mean, you
two really don’t anything like related,” he said as he
looked at their facial features. Mainel had a small nose,
big, green eyes, and full lips; his father on the other hand
had a long nose, wide hazel eyes, and thinner lips.
“We’re related through her mother. We probably don’t really
look alike because, well, she’s related to my wife,” he
answered. Jason never knew his father’s wife. She passed
away and months later Jason was adopted. Apparently they
always wanted to have a child but with one miscarriage after
another they decided that they couldn’t go through another
and so stopped.
Jason looked at Mainel for reactions on the mention of her
parents. But she simply gave a smile, as if proud, yet a
flicker of pain and sadness in her eyes gave away her true
emotions. “That true?” he asked her. She simply nodded.
“Hmm,” was his only reply. Keeping his eyes on his cousin he
asked, “So what happened to your folks again?” with
malicious intent, keeping an innocent look as he said this.
“Ahem,” he heard his father, warning him.
The anger that welled up in Mainel was obvious, especially
to someone staring directly in her eyes. Tears seemed to
swell up in her eyes but her anger disappeared as quickly as
it came. “They died.” Silence. Jason looked at her, as if
asking for more. “Murdered.” Silence, Jason was amazed.
“Really?” he said in his amazement. “So who did it?”
A loud bang! and the table shook. Jason threw his hands up
as if in surrender, shocked. Mainel’s small fist was on the
table. She quickly stood up, “Can I please be excused?
Please.” she asked. Jason’s father nodded and indicated to
someone to come and clean up dinner. Mainel left the room
and Jason heard her almost run up the stairs.
An awkward silence stood between father and son as the food
and plates were cleared. Jason was about to stand up when,
“Sit down,” his father said in a quietly but harshly. He
quickly sat back down. The awkward silence was back.
“Um,” Jason said so softly that it sounded like a sigh, his
throat dry.
“How dare you?” his father broke the silence. Jason looked
up to see his father staring right at him, causing him to
quickly look down at his hands on his lap.
“I-” Jason began only to be silenced.
“No. No, you absolutely don’t get the chance to defend
yourself. What you did is beyond unacceptable. What, just
what, was going through your head?” his father was
flustered, trying not to let all his anger out. “You- That’s
family right there whether you want her to be or not. We’re
family and we stick together! I can’t-” he gave a long,
tired sigh. “I expected more from you, Jason. You out of all
people should know how hard it is to lose family,” he stood
up, “I-” another sigh, “What you did is way beyond crossing
the line. I’ll talk to you soon. Go.”
Jason slowly stood up and walked out of the dining room. He
went up the stairs and paused when he reached his door. He
sighed and rested his forehead on the door and took a deep
breath. He walked over to Mainel’s door and knocked.

{14} Mainel

Her face was buried on her pillow. It suffocated her but she
no didn’t care; she simply wanted to sleep, sleep a
dreamless sleep. “I’m not mad,” she told herself, “I’m not
even upset. So what if their dead? Everyone dies someday.”
She felt something forcing itself out of her eyes. She
stopped it. “I’m strong, I can deal with this.”
There was a sudden, unsure knock on her door. She paused,
wondering if she should answer. Another knock, louder but
uneven, completely unsure but forcing itself. Mainel got up
from her bed and glanced at herself I the mirror: a little
messy but otherwise okay. She grabbed the doorknob and
opened the door.
Jason’s back was turned away from her and he quickly spun
his head back to look at her eye to eye. Mainel was quiet.
They stared at each other for what seemed to be hours. “Um,”
Jason started. His eyes left Mainel and he massaged his
neck.
The longer she stared at Jason the faster her heart rate
seems to go. “Control,” she told herself. She took a deep
breath. Jason looked up and seemed to be startled.
“I, um, I-I’m really sorry. I didn’t know,” Jason said in a
whisper. Her heart rate sped up once again. “I know what I
did was unacceptable-” Jason’s words were lost in Mainel.
All she could hear now was her heart pumping, adrenaline
rushing. Her hands formed into fists. “Urkgh,” a strange
sound came from Jason. Before she could realize it her fist
had contacted with Jason’s face. “What?” she heard him say.
Another punch and she no longer cared. “Let it flow,”
something on the back of her mind said. Jason’s arms were
up, protecting him. Moments later she felt something hit her
on the face and she was suddenly mid-air. Someone was
holding on to her, keeping her away from Jason.
“Calm, calm!” the person holding her whispered fiercely at
her ear, squeezing her as Mainel struggled harder. “Calm,
quiet, calm,” the voice was getting softer. “Shhh, hold on
and calm down. Quiet, calm, shh.” Minutes later she was once
again in control of herself. All she thought about was she
was tired, she wanted to sleep. The same person shook her as
she tried to sleep. She kept on jolting awake until the
shaking no longer worked.

Mainel woke up in the middle of the night. Moonlight
seeped into the room and a cold draft came in from the open
window. She jolted upright and realized that she was still
in her shirt and jeans. Shutting the window she looked
around, making sure that nothing was clearly amiss. Right
next to her bed she saw someone sitting. So still that it
petrified her. What seemed like hours whoever it was still
did not move. A careful step to the right and still no
movement; she made her way to her desk and grabbed
something, anything. Something round and cold was in her
hand and she threw it- the object being heavier than she
expected. There was a nop as it hit something. The person
suddenly moved and seemed to look from its left and right.
“What the hell?” it suddenly asked, its voice
somewhat menacing. He finally spotted Mainel from across
him, “That actually hit me you know,” there was a sigh and
he turned around and turned on a lamp- it was Ryan. “Well at
least you’re okay, I think.”
Mainel was confused, then suddenly, “How the fuck do
you think I would react?! What the hell are you doing here?”
she raged.
He stood up, “You should be a little more grateful,”
he admonished. “Had your circumstances been different I
wouldn’t have let what you did pass so easily,” he added
quietly.
Mainel gritted her teeth. “Get out.”
“Check out you hand, do you even remember how you
got that?” Mainel looked at her hand. It was covered with a
bandage. “It’s better than it looks; just some bruising and
small cuts. I suggest that you keep it covered ‘till it
heals.”
“What?” was her only response.
He nodded, “You hit Jason, several times actually.
He’s going to have a nasty bruise on his face and arms but
you’re lucky that’s it.” Ryan looked at her straight into
her eyes. “Know how lucky you are. Had Jason decided to hit
back things would be a lot worst for the both of you. Any
other time I would have report this but Jason didn’t want to
and, frankly, neither do I,” Mainel was about to say he
thanks, “And don’t believe that it’s for you,” he added.
“Jason had his reason and I have mine. If anyone asks, well,
make something up. Since you’re okay I don’t believe that
you need me still. Goodnight,” he began to walk away. “By
the way, you may want to talk to Jason,” he walked out of
the room.
She went back to her bed, still unchanged and simply
lay there until morning.
