ADVENTURES IN ANOTHER WORLD

DAY 46

More people have come in search of this Drarkahn. I now
have to care for 12 people. More children, who are cute
and fun. But more importantly, strong young people. They
all came from different villages, all destroyed. All have
slightly different dialects, so learning the language is a
challenge. In this world, both men and women work, and
are ready to fight. I have handed out the weapons and
armour I acquired from the men I killed. But we don’t
talk about that. We have set up a regular guard duty.
From some of the younger men I have been learning to use
and sword and shield, and the women have been teaching me
to use the bow and arrow. I am finding that I am
acquiring these skills more quickly than I believe I
should. They feel I have some experience in these matters
because of my dexterity and strength, but to be truthful,
I have no prior knowledge to speak of. They have also
been teaching me to hunt larger game in the forest. To
track, remain silent, and camouflage ourselves. I shot a
deer the other day, bringing much meat. But the sound of
the gun frightens them. So I think I will try using the
bow as they do, and reserve my remaining ammo for if we
are attacked. When we are attacked, they tell me. On this
busy pathway, I suppose this in unavoidable. I must keep
this in mind, for as enjoyable as each day is, this is not
a paradise. It is a war zone. So we build our world, and
plan our defence. I was fortunate enough to catch traders
on the trail and offered them the coins I had acquired
from … previous events. They gave me a great deal of food
and equipment in exchange. We have proper axes now, so we
can chop down trees and build structures for my friend, my
family, to live in. We acquired rope, nets, nails, and
wood forming tools. As well we bought a large quantity of
beans and rice, five chickens, and a pig. We also bought
seed, and have started a small plot of land to farm. I
enjoy my new family. We have more than enough between the
forest, the river, and now the livestock and garden.
