JO Simons report on Bike RIde in northern Wisconsin Day 4, 6/24/09

JO Simons, my neighbor at the studio, is in the midst of a
strenuous bike ride with her friend, K.K. Anderson, another
biking enthusiast along with 450 others! I paste in JO's report, this one from
day 4 posted 6/24/09

Start:

With a weather forecast of only 88 for today, we were pretty happy, down
from 95 yesterday but this is the longest day (88 miles)so I'm sending my
report before finishing today's trip but the morning went fine - much less
beastly than yesterday - KK and I left at 6 along with pretty much everyone
else (again, all were rising at 4:30). But today, we stopped at a water station
that was a church (locals sell stuff to us bikers to help various causes, and
they had quite a spread offered). I didn't want to eat anything so I told KK I
was heading out on my own (after taking a picture of her standing infront of
a road sign of a road we were travelling on, County KK - actually, it said JCT
something and END Cty KK. She didn't like the "end" part, but actually, this
may be her last GRABAAWR after doing it 12 times previously so it's perhaps
fitting - what a woman!

So, on my own, I continued and after a while, started doing something I've
done lots of times while biking - getting creative. KK said there's always a
talent show at the end of the tour so I started thinking about what we could
do and came up with a funny song that three of us can sing and act out - I've
even pretty much figured out the piano accompaniment (that someone else
will have to play). So far, I've seen that there's 3 of us who know each other
from the Madison spin class, so my song is about that and about doing the
tour. KK and I caught up with each other at lunch time in Stevens Point in
that wonderful park that goes along the river (and sang it to her and she
thought it hilarious - should be a blast. ANYWAY, I arrived in Stevens Point
at about 10:30 (57 miles). Still have 28 to go to get to WI Rapids (Hey Sue,
we're staying at your highschool!)

And KK reported that the sag team found my debit card at the water station I
stopped at - don't know how that happened. They are amazing! The
announcement from the sag truck was "rider 434, we have your credit card"
and KK happened to be there when they said that and knew it was me!.. Wow.

Forgot to tell y'all that there's a bunch of people who aren't satisfied with a
mere 88 miles - they're the Century Riders and they do 100 miles a day (they
go so fast, it must be easy for them actually). KK and I, lumbering along at
our 12-15 MPH can't imagine wanting to extend the ride although today, I
saw the odometer at 21 MPH as I sped past some much skinnier riders!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's report. You can't imagine how encouraging it is
for me to know you all are waiting to hear how it's going - it helps to keep
me turning those wheels so thanks lots!
