October 18: Dear Diary, Because I was kind of tired ...

...of being in Santa Rosa, I walked the seven-mile
connecting bike trail into Sebastopol. It would've only
taken me a couple of hours, but half way through it I
stopped to roll a doobie. Not even a mile later, I stopped
to rest on a bench. I ended up resting on three benches
before getting into town. In other words, what should've
only taken two hours ended up actually taken until five
this morning. I left Santa Rosa last night at about 10:30
pm.

Later on .......

I'm under ten dollars left on my foodstamps, and I'm also
not quite sure where to go from here. I have some maps now
and can't decide how exactly I want to head towards the
city. I'm sitting by the local tavern, and just asked
someone how they (the PD) are with the homeless. He
said "There's only eleven of us". Tonight anyway I guess I
make twelve. It's a little cooler here than it was in Santa
Rosa. This may be a downhill slide from this moment on,
unless I can maybe get another blanket by tonight. Every
once in a while it feels adventurous being a nomad, but
there's always the times when it absolutely sucks. Not the
lifestyle itself, but just way that you're treated by those
that don't understand your life's particular dilemma. This
lady named Teresa just came out of the tavern and handed me
a sleeping bag. There really is a God.

Later on .......

Some guy named Mike (he prefers Mikey though) came out the
tavern, walked by me, then turned around and asked if I'd
eaten today, gave me three dollars, and then walked away.
Strange huh? I didn't even get to answer his question.
Another guy came out the tavern not five minutes later, lit
a joint, took two hits, then gave me the rest before
walking back in the tavern. I'd say that was a little
strange too, wouldn't you? I really miss my family, and can
only pray that I can conquer, or should I say tackle, this
nation's wintery terrain, as this is the season slowly
approaching as I begin to cross the country.
