9 days old

Maya is 9 days old. We've been home for about a week now.
Things are going well! She's not fussy, & she rarely cries.
We're up usually every 2-3 hours at night, which is to be
expected with an infant, right? I shouldn't complain, but
the lack of sleep is starting to get to me. I'm sure it'll
get better!

We're trying to wean her off the nipple shield, it's day 2
of trying. I'm using the pump to try to draw the girls out
and get a good flow going. So far she's only successfully
latched and fed twice without the shield, but I've also been
able to have her start on the shield and then remove it
twice too. Otherwise she has refused to latch without the
shield. We're also not trying at night -- maybe I'm lazy,
but I just want things to smoothly at night!

Feeling somewhat resentful that all Jon has to wake up for
is 5 minutes to change her diaper and reswaddle her, but he
really can't breastfeed, now can he?

I've been a bit weepy the past few days... baby blues? I'm
just feeling a bit overwhelmed by the change in our routine,
and the demands on me, my body, and my time. It'll get
better, right?

She's just so precious. I love her so. I feel incredibly
protective. Jon's parents were over the other night and his
mom told me she wanted to cut down her work schedule to
watch Maya one day a week. As much as I think that would be
better than a day at daycare, it still scares me. What's
worse -- a caring stranger at daycare or a psycho but
well-intentioned grandmother? I dunno. My stomach's somewhat
in knots about it. As if the thought of going back to work
in three months isn't hard enough.

My parents are coming tomorrow for a few days. Hopefully
they won't be too overwhelming. Hopefully I won't freak out
about breastfeeding while they're around. It's going to be a
pain to have to go upstairs every time, especially with the
pump. Ugh. But it'll be nice to have them around.

Ok, off to try to see if Maya wants to eat. She's been
napping for a while and getting her to eat without the
shield is much easier if she's not too hungry.
