Effectance -- new poem written in Milwaukee

Effectance

A psychologist named “effectance” as a quantity a person
may possess.
This quantity increases when a person experiences success.

I know an artist who does horses often red and blue; their
manes
Texture flamboyantly her painting’s skies; on those necks
no reins.

She’s had her time of troubles, her share of messianic
pride.
But now with her writing, she’s let that wane, recede,
subside.

For now a painting that she did graces ads that tell of
mental affliction.
And people notice, regard her, ask for her interviews, her
depictions.

Now she expresses more in words, at least for the moment,
but yes effectance
Graces her world and that of others, connection, love,
acceptance.

And in the flowers I see through the window I feel a
question:
And what will happen in my own life: what’s its next
section?

(Mistyped as “sexxtion” just now, a Freudian slip?)
Where’s my effectance? Onto what ship

Do I climb for what it is that I will do?
So many things I work upon; I need a glue

To hold me tight together I believe.
And oh the tangled webs I weave.
