22 weeks, Condo

Sunday April 29 2007
8:28am EDT

You are 22 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 20 weeks) 22 weeks

* The fetus reacts to loud sounds.
* Baby starts having a regular sleeping and waking rhythm.
* The mother's movements can wake her baby.
* Taste buds are forming on your baby's tongue.
* The baby is 28cm long (crown to heel) and weighs over
450 grams.
* The weekly weight gain has increased to around 70 grams.

Your baby is about 11 inches long and weighs in at about 1
pound. The eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed, and the
fingernails cover the fingertips. Sounds from a conversation
are loud enough to be heard by the fetus in the uterus. If
you talk, read, or sing to your baby, it's reasonable to
expect him or her to be able to hear you.

By this week, your waistline is definitely gone. The top of
your uterus is now about 1 inch (3cm) above your
bellybutton. Your enlarging abdomen is not too large and
doesn't get in your way much. You're still able to bend over
and to sit comfortably. Walking shouldn't be an effort. Your
friends and relatives can tell you are pregnant. It would be
hard to hide your condition.

The baby is about 11 inches (28cm) long (crown to heel) and
weighs in at about 1 pound (450g).

WEEEEEE!!! I can't believe I'm 22 weeks already. Now, the
whole weeks to month thing STILL throws me off. Baby2see.com
says that weeks 22-26 put me "in the sixth month". What does
that mean? Have I completed six months? Or am I still 5
months and so many weeks? Fertility Friend also says I'm in
my 6th month. So... ?? I guess I've completed 5 months and
am working on 6. That would make sense. Wednesday is May 2,
which is 4 months before my due date. And pregnancy is
technically 10 months. Or something. I'm so confused.

Have I mentioned the condo thing yet? Jon's parents are
trying to help us get into a condo that's in
pre-foreclosure. Contracts should be at Jon's dad's office
Monday for us to sign. They're taking out a freaking home
equity loan to make it happen, they're both insane. Jon's
mom says that because of this (the price ended up being more
because of another offer, so it's not as good a deal as they
originally thought it would be) she can't afford to throw me
a shower, give us any baby stuff, Christmas presents, etc.
Fine, whatever. It's not OUR FAULT they're doing this. I
mean, they're nice about it, but yesterday at lunch Jon's
mom was like "After this, my savings are at zero" and she
kept saying that. It's like, we didn't hold a gun to your
head and make you be financially irresponsible, lady!

She also wants to renovate the thing for us, put a third
bedroom into the walk out basement (where there is a
window), make us a laundry room, etc. Whatever! Jon's
setting up the inspection this week. The only glitch is that
because it's a pre-foreclosure it could take as long as 2
months after we sign the contracts for the bank to get all
the paperwork together for us to schedule the closing. Then
we'd need at least a month to do the renovations... putting
me at 8-9 months. Lovely. We'll manage if we have to -- it's
not ideal, but we'd get through it.

Jon went into the city to see music last night and stayed
with Bill. He's seeing Yo La Tengo tonight with a bunch of
people, including Russ and Beth. They wanted me to come, but
it's time they learn that I can't stay up on work nights
like that! I'll probably go out and walk a bit today before
it rains.

Had a good convo with my mom last night. She called to talk
about the baby shower, and I told her all about the condo
and we talked baby stuff, too. That was cool.

We might go to Avi's for Cinco de Mayo next Saturday. I'm a
little anxious about it... Rachel had said she was going, so
I'm trying to check with her to make sure she is, but she
hasn't responded yet. I'll call her this week if she doesn't
write back.

Um. Yeah. I now feel the baby move every day, usually 2-3
times a day. No big kicks, just little wiggles and
movements. Still can't feel anything from the outside. So
far she seems pretty mellow. Let's hope that's how she is
outside the womb too!
