Hussein is dead and the 'patriotic' idiots are out in full force

I've been following closely the news today surrounding the
execution of Saddam Hussein. For anyone who doesn't know,
Hussein was sentenced 56 days ago to death by hanging for
his role in the 1982 Dujail massacre.

Now here's what I don't get...I mean I really don't get this
at all, and it makes me really ashamed and embarassed just
how ignorant and self-righteous people are:

Once the news started to trickle in about Hussein's
execution, I perused a few Internet message boards...and
then a few others...and then more. What I found shocked the
living hell out of me (though I guess it shouldn't have).
Hussein's death apparently...for a lot of people...has been
some sort of vindication, a sweet victory
against...."liberals and Democrats that are ruining this
nation."

Yes, you read that right. Don't believe me....go search for
yourself. It's out there if you look. These are just some of
the comments I pulled off various message boards, ranging
from CNN to Fox News to Major League Baseball (MLB.com) to
the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) (spelling and
such is left as it was written):

"Finaly..now i guess the dems know we mean business cuz we
weren't going to tlet Sadam getaway."

"Thank God he's dead. The Liberals lost this round!!"

"The Iraq war is justified tonight. Now maybe all those
hippie liberals and Democrats can go cry about something
else."

"They should've hung Hillary right next to him."

"The only good Muslin is a dead Muslim and the only good
liberal is George Bush. Liberator of Iraq!" (That one made
me spit out my drink.)

Seriously, since when is every liberal and Democrat
(usually two largely different groups of people mind you) a
Hussein sympathizer? Since when are we "enemy combatants,"
and "unpatriotic" and "America haters" and all the other
crap I've seen, read and heard lately? Last I checked.
Hussein was found guilty in an Iraqi courtroom, by Iraqi
people. And I can't recall any elected Democrat official
(or potential candidate for that matter) calling for his
release, or wanting to stay his execution. I can say the
same thing about 75 percent of "liberals" as well...(except
maybe those associated with human rights organizations or
strictly against any form of death penalty. But no one I
know or would affiliate myself with would ever advocate
Hussein's release, or justify any of his actions.

My take? I think Hussein got what he deserved. And this
comes from a liberal Democrat. But (hopefully like any
intelligent American), I am slightly concerned about how
violence will escalate in the wake of his execution and what
the best way the U.S. should handle this--both at home and
abroad.

What I think is sadly laughable though is how many people
see this as a victory against...well....me, and anyone else
who has been, or now is, opposed to this war. I'm opposed to
the war because it was Bush's bullshit excuse to set up his
rich friends and family with multi-billion-dollar deals, and
a twisted plot of revenge against "the man who threatened
my daddy." It came at a time when Americans were demanding
justice for 9-11 and the capture of Osama Bin Laden and his
followers. Iraq was one big distraction--a way to keep the
uninformed populous rah, rah patriotic and supportive while
Bush and Co. robbed us blind and excused himself from his
duty of taking on a more challenging assignment (Bin Laden).
It's bullshit...period. And as a family member of a 9-11
victim, I feel utterly trashed upon...and now to have a
percentage of the population call me unpatriotic as well?
Fuck that ladies and gentlemen. Fuck that straight to hell.

Look, like I said, I'm personally glad Hussein is dead. And
I would hope that Bush and Co. have enough common sense to
plan for and carry out actions to stave off any serious
spike in violence that's to be expected after an event such
as this (though I admit I have minimal confidence in that
notion at the moment). But I won't tolerate the countless
idiots out there who are so misinformed that they those
Hussein's execution in my face as a "take that commie!"

That's just asanine.
