Orwell's 1984-TVP version

12/12--10:47PM—Charlotte told me that Billy put everything
on her, that she was being selfish.
The woman pays for the phones they use, constantly buys
gifts for him, pays for their outings and his gas; puts
money in his pocket and he tells her that she’s being
selfish. He doesn’t help her when she’s at risk with her
rent, clothe or feed her Daughter, foot the bill when they
go anywhere and he tells her that she’s asking him for too
much. She’s seeing the light and says that he’s kidding
himself if he thinks she can’t walk away from him,
especially after coming to the realization that he’s just
been using her.
She also has issues with how inconsiderate he can be of the
feelings of others, he’d once made fun of a fat lady while
with her, it bothered her because she used to be like that
lady; fat. It also bothered her that he didn’t care that the
lady heard him; he wanted to hurt her feelings for his own
pleasure. These things are coming to a head; she’s beginning
to see Billy as he really is, not as she would love to see him.
Before our conversation ended, I heard a change in
Charlotte’s tone, she wasn’t sounding so stressed; she
sounded determined to make a change in her life. I told her
that Billy’s attitude isn’t her problem, how she deals with
it is. I told her that she couldn’t change him, she could
only change herself, if he loved her he would conform to
please her; that’s not going to happen.
The company uniforms came today; I have a problem with the
fact that they’ve sewn the American flag on the sleeves,
that’s a political statement I didn’t choose to make. My
patriotism isn’t in question, if I wanted to wave the flag
I’d have flown one from my car, I’m not the only person with
this concern. My politics and religious affiliations are
personal and private, that’s one of the reasons we have
secret ballots.
