Scholarship

A few weeks ago I sent in a short story entry to the written
arts category of the Rosa Parks Multicultural Scholarship
Competition. Yesterday, when I came home from work, I found
a phone message telling me that I'd won!

I wrote a story entitled "Traveling to the City of Angels"
about the trip my mother, brothers, and I took from northern
Ontario to Los Angeles.

The director of the competition asked and was granted
permission to read my story at the presentation and awards
ceremony which will be held at the end of the month. Since
it is in Kansas I won't be able to attend. They are filming
the ceremony and will send me a copy of it on DVD. They asked
me for a photograph of myself and I told them I would email
them one. They also wanted some information about me, which
I'll also send.

I'm very happy I won. The prize will help pay for my
textbooks next term.
