The two most disheartening calls of my life

i'm becoming disenchanted with our service industry. I
always thought that they were the epitome of efficiency and
friendliness...unfortunately, I have found out that this is
nto always the case.
This morning I called my insurance company to figure out why
I hadn't received my insurance card yet (it had been over a
month).
Now...mind you, I have been calling my insurance company and
leaving them messages (yes...messages) for the past week. I
have never heard back and I've never gotten through. I
couldn't use their website because, lo and behold, you need
your registration number which is on your insurance card.
"Ring...Hello?"
"Hello?" i was so flabbergasted to actually get someone on
the phone that at first I was caught off guard.
"Hello! yes, um, I haven't received my insurance card yet."
"Yes." what the hell is that shit? yes? that's not the
way you respond!
"Um, when will I be getting it?"
"what's your address?"
i give her my address and she recites back to me MY
UNIVERSITY'S ADDRESS!!! ARGH!
"that's my university's address."
"oh, well that's who we have listed here."
"no that's who i got this insurance through. my name should
be on there."
a pause. some heavy breathing, then...
"oh yeah, if i scroll down I see your name...hm, looks like
we sent it to your university by mistake it will be to you
in 3 - 4 weeks."
"okay and that's to me."
"who's this?"
"nick"
"not seattle university right?"
oh my god.
but that's not even the best one. the best phone call ever
was today to the credit card company (who shall remain
nameless).
you see juli and i applied for a credit card about 3 weeks
ago and the other day i got a letter from the company asking
me for verification of my mailing address.
yes you read correctly. I WAS MAILED TO THE ADDRESS THAT
THEY COULDN'T VERIFY WAS MINE...A STATEMENT SAYING THAT I
HAD TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS.
now on first face, you may say...hey, maybe that's the only
way they could contact you. no...i can think of three other
ways they could have.
1.) by phone
2.) by e-mail
3.) by my old mailing address (which i had to supply)
so i called them up to discuss this whole ordeal.
"hi, yes i just wanted to clarify my mailing address, you
sent me a request to verify my address and i just mailed it
back to you with a signed letter from my bank confirming my
address will that be enough?"
"we need a bank statement."
"yes, but i just verified that it is my mailing address by
mailing it back to you.............that proves that i get
the mail you send me and that this is my legal address."
"how?"
"because i received the mailing and replied to it."
"i'm afraid that does't prove anything."
"why not?"
"anyone can just reply."
"with a signed letter from a financial institution
confirming that that person is the person to whom the
original request was made out to?"
"we will notify you if we need more information."
oh my god!
what is wrong with this world? i swear to god, it's nothing
but a bunch of fucking monkeys with hats behind telephones.
