Zschetzsche Key

I know its horrible, but my first classes are at 10 on
Tue/Thurs and 11:45 on MWF and I STILL have trouble waking
up for them. I’ve been showing up 5 minutes late pretty
consistently for the past week or two. Its really really
bad. You know what else is really bad? My Systems class,
or as I like to call it, Storytime with Andy. Its bad both
in my performance and the lectures themselves. We had lab
today, and I finished the assignment within the lab time.
Unfortunately, I have yet to finish last week’s lab. I hate
assembly with a burning hatred. I mostly understand it and
know that it is good for us to go through it, but dammit, it
is just so tedious. And the lectures are made up of Andy
reading out of the book. I mean, I would not be surprised
if one day, he comes in with a stool and goes “Now gather
‘round class and I’ll tell you the story of Goldilocks and
the three Disk Drives.” He’s a nice guy and all, but I’m
not exactly paying your bills so you can read out of a
textbook for us.

We found us a house today. I also was reminded why I go
through my mom for everything and why I go as long as I can
get away with between calling my parents. Anyways, we all
agreed pretty quickly that we liked the house, and after a
short debate on whether to look at more houses or just sign
for that one, called the landlords back and told them that
we were interested. It is smack dab in the middle of where
all of my friends who are living off campus are currently
living. Unfortunately, I think only one or two of them are
staying in that spot next year. Its still a nice house,
though.

We got the e-mail at 11:30 last night that our choir is
going to perform on Prairie Home Companion this weekend. I
don’t know what to think about it. It sounds like it might
be cool, but it is going to eat up more weekend than I care
to let it and my weekends are usually pretty full to begin
with, I’m not as excited as I could be about it. We’ll see
how it goes, though.

So we played Aces and Eights (tabletop RPG set in a western
setting) tonight. It was so great. I shall now regale you
with the story of the Zschetzsche Key. We started the
session in a gun battle, and because all I had were pistols,
I couldn’t shoot anything with that great of accuracy from
the distance I was at. So, later in the session, we were
contracted to take down a stagecoach. I figured this would
most likely require long distance fighting again, so I
decided I should go and get a rifle. I go to the rifle
shop, but alas, it had closed for the evening, and by the
time it would open again, the stagecoach would have left.
Andy and I decide that we were going to attempt to break
into the gun shop and steal the provisions we require. I
walk up and successfully pick the lock into the store,
except when we got in, there was a second door made of
barbed wire. We stand there and bounce ideas off each other
of how to tackle this obstacle (many were as bad as the one
we finally came up with). Finally, Andy asks the GM “Is
there a telegraph station in town?” The map indicated that
yes, there was a telegraph station in town. Andy suggests
that he and I sneak over to the telegraph station, find an
unused telegraph pole, bring it back, and use it to ram
through the barbed wire door. At first I was reluctant, but
after realizing I couldn’t come up with a better idea, I
gave in and we tried it. And it worked. We busted through
the barbed wire door, only to find ourselves in an area with
useless guns. The useful guns were behind the counter,
which had steel bars in front of it. There was a door to
the back, but it was made of steel and was locked. So what
did we do? We used the 30ft long telegraph pole to break
down the door. We succeeded after three tries, at which
point the GM labeled the stick the “Zschetzsche Key” after
Andy. Unfortunately, our characters died later in the
session, so the Zschetzsche Key will most likely go the way
of the Dodo, but it was hella fun while it lasted.

G’night
