2311 - Make a wish - The End of the Election

Still one riding left to report and it looks like this:

Cons. 122 - Lib. 104 - BQ 50 - NDP 30 - Ind. 1

You know, something that is very interesting in the way
things have turned out tonight... We are essentially
going to have a rural-based government going up against an
urban-based opposition. That could provide a lot of
interesting sparks in the term to come.

Oh jesus. The riding that has not yet reported in
Vancouver Centre. There's a bloody surprise. It's a
riding people have been interested in watching so it
figures that that would be the one holding out. How
annoying. I'd say somethng here about B.C. and marijuana
but...that would just be wrong. LOL. I take it back
before I even say anything...

Harper's pretty young for a prime minister, not yet 47...
also interesting.

Marc Garneau lost his bid to become a member of Parliament
but Michael Ignatieff took his riding. Good. Some say he
is going to be the next leader of the Liberal party. Oh,
there they go asking him about it. See? I know what I'm
talking about. (Sadly, Ignatieff isn't as charismatic or
something as I was hoping...[-sigh-]...brilliant man,
though, apparently, a professor at Harvard and a big-deal
something at U of T, recently appointed...)

I was hoping to stay up to see which of the leaders would
be speaking first and last and in between, but I think I
am going to hit the hay. I'm tired. The election is more
or less over and I need to get ready to go back to work,
joyous work, tomorrow morning.

Stephen Harper as prime minister. I already can't stand
to look at him. You don't represent me, Mr. Harper. Not
in any way, shape or form do you represent me or my Canada.

Vancouver Centre came in (delayed because of a high turn-
out of voters so they extended the hours, which happens
sometimes). Liberal in the lead (a controversial Liberal,
at that), followed by a controversial NDP candidate.

One more thing before I go to bed. The 3 largest urban
centres in the country - Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver,
which combine for over 30 seats - have not voted in one
Conservative. That means that there won't be an urban
representative in the cabinet of the new government.
It'll make for a more cohesive cabinet but also lots of
sparks to come.

We might be upset about Liberal scandals, but we clearly
aren't willing to send them packing. That gives me some
hope, at least. Hang in there, guys...we need you now
more than ever...

Final tally before bed (though it may change by tomorrow
morning, b/c there are a few tight races going on still):

Cons. 122 - Lib. 105 - BQ 51 - BQ 29 - Ind. 1

Stephen Harper - you have been handed a very limited
mandate to show us, the people who don't have faith in
you, that we were wrong and that you can be trusted not to
screw this country up badly and right away. I would love
to be proven wrong...but I am very very hesitant to
believe that. We shall see.

Get out your dukes, Paul Martin. You and your Liberals
have a very important task ahead of you as the official
opposition. Prove that you deserve to get back in there,
guys. And, post haste, alright?!?

Thank you.

P.S.: some guy wrote in to the CBC: "I am going to make
a fortunate by selling bumper stickers from today on:
Don't blame me, I voted Liberal." That, my friends, is
very funny, given that a week ago, the exact opposite
might have been just as true. LOL. Good night...K2

P.S.2: Prediction for Peter Milliken to remain as
Speaker. Interesting.

P.S.3: Even more interesting: There is not enough of any
one other party, save the Liberals, that could team up
with the Conservatives to create a majority. The NDP are
short a few votes (literally somewhere between 1 and 5).
Oh, ha ha ha, that sort of makes me laugh. God, I'm going
to bed! Night! K2
