My lawsuit

Although I got out a lot of the stress and anguish I was
feeling last night, I didn't mention all the positive
stuff that had happened. No, my lawsuit has nothing to do
with it. But I will write about it because it will soon be
a big part of my life.

Here is how I remember it. I was 18 and living in my first
apartment, and at the time I was still attending the
community college that was across the street. So I set my
alarm clock to wake me up about 6:30-6:45 just so I could
get dressed and get ready for my class to start right
around 7. Funny, I still remember it was my English Comp.
1 with Mrs. Clay. My apartment complex is split between
two buildings, A and B. To get on College Blvd and enter
through the school gates, you have to take three lefts
because it is a one-way road through the complex. It is
maybe 50 feet long so you can't accelerate to high speeds,
especially when you are about to make a turn. We hit at
the second left I was going to make, on a skinny road. It
could have been a two way road, but I wouldn't recommend
it.

Anyways, to shorten this story up, there isn't a stop sign
or a yeild sign at all by the dumpster where you have to
make the second turn. At 7 a.m. there are a bunch of cars
parked down the entire side of the complex, and they are
parked one behind the other. I couldn't see through them,
and I couldn't hear anybody coming so I started to turn. I
had the nose end of my car out and we collided.

Most of the damage was done on my car, which was a dent on
the front left hand side of the car, on the corner. It
busted to cover to the headlight. That was it. No big
deal, I drove that car around like that for another year
and a half before I had to get rid of it, and that was
because the transmission was leaking and ended up messing
the car up. His car had minimal damage, but apparently
went to the doctor a year later talking about how his
lower back was hurting. He had a herniated disk? Whatever,
he waited a year later. But he was driving his, well I am
assuming she was his girlfriend, girlfriend's car under a
suspended license and he wasn't on her insurance. We both
got ticketed, and it wasn't a big fine at all. Mostly,
mine said I failed to yield to the right of way.

Now, almost 4 years later, he is trying to sue my dad and
I for $100,000 dollars. It started out that USAA was
trying to settle for $4000 and he didn't accept it. How it
jumped, to that amount anyways, is beyond me. Our lawyer
said that it probably will never go to court, it's just
going to be a pain in our asses for awhile. She seems to
be pretty nice, and I'm not worried about this lawsuit, at
least not at this point in time. This is the last thing I
should be focusing on when I have a baby on the way. I
don't need the added stress with all the shit my husband
gives me. Geez!

That's how my meeting went, a series of basic questions, a
statement from me about what happened, a diagram for me to
draw and just explaining the basics to us. It took about
an hour. It feels weird, seeing a lawyer and someone
wanting to sue me. Well, mostly my dad, but the lawsuit is
about me as well. But most of the more important stuff
will come later, then it will be real. But a lot of stuff
will have to be postponed about the baby's birth. If the
opposing party can't understand it, they can kiss my ass.
