Ka Mate!

One of the things I really want to do in my lifetime is
see the All Blacks perform their haka live before a rugby
match...in New Zealand preferably...but I'll take it
anywhere if I can just see that...

God. I'm sure I've mentioned this before on one other
occasion, at least, but it bore repeating!

Out of everything I love about sports and out of all the
sports and sports moments I've played, seen live, watched
on tv, heard stories of, been involved in in any way...

I still contend that the All Blacks' haka has to be the
most riveting and spine-chilling couple of minutes there

My god.

[-shivers and smiles-]

Thank you for listening to me. When I finally get to see
it, I will let you know...

[-shivers again-] What a thrill that would be! I'm not
kidding...if I ever stopped shivering, I'd probably cry...
fucking wuss that I am...just...that is the kind of thing
that about reaches into my soul and just grabs hold and
gets me in the heart every time for some reason.

I don't even care that I sound weird. I believe this,
what I'm saying.

Though I'm not sure I spelt haka right though I think I

The words (and translation) of the Ka Mate haka are
below... (you'll note the actually words mean nothing to
rugby...it was written a long time ago about a decidedly
non-rugby event...like a man being chased by another
man...but you can read all of that in the link above...)

The Words of Ka Mate

"Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora!
I die! I die! I live! I live!

Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora!
I die! I die! I live! I live!

Tenei te tangata puhuru huru
This is the hairy man

Nana nei i tiki mai
Who fetched the Sun

Whakawhiti te ra
And caused it to shine again

A upa ... ne! ka upa ... ne!
One upward step! Another upward step!

A upane kaupane whiti te ra!
An upward step, another.. the Sun shines !!!

You've just got to see it to understand. I LOVE IT!
