My Alphabetized Existence/The Letter D

Dancer, erratic (See also: ballerina, secret)
Another of John's endearments for me.

I've had a very good dentist for more than twenty
years and my teeth are very well taken care of. Still, I
have a dentist phobia. I go for a dental check-up every six
months and always worry they'll find something that'll
require a shot and drilling. So far it's been four years
since I've had to have any work done and that wasn't a new
cavity, it was replacing an old filling. Some of this is,
I'm sure, from when I was a child and only saw a dentist
infrequently. It was not unusual for them to find five or
six cavities. One dentist I remember particularly as he was
rough and my mouth would hurt for days after the Novocain
wore off.
I've talked to my dentist about this. He is
gentle and careful but still I worry. Here I'm afraid of a
shot and a little painless drilling when I've had ten pound
babies with no drugs! You'd think I'd have a little bit more

Dessert (See also: pie versus cake)
What a great entry to have right after the one
about dentists! I'm not particularly fond of chocolate but
I like cream pastries. I don't like pie much either but
John and the boys do so I'll bake them. The best dessert is
a scone just out of the oven with butter and jam and a cup
of hot tea.

Devil (as in the details)

Dickenson, Emily
She is one of my favorite poets. She may have
been a spinster but I have my doubts she missed anything.
One of her poems is entitled Wild Nights:

Wild nights! Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile the winds
To a heart in port,--
Done with the compass
Done with the chart!

Rowing in Eden!
Ah! the sea!
Might I but moor
To-night in thee!
See what I mean?

This is one of the best things ever invented,
right after washers and dryers. As the oldest I had to wash
the dinner dishes every night and I remember when I finished
high school that I thought now the younger ones would have
to do it. No, they didn't. My mother went and bought a
dishwasher. I didn't think that was fair.
I was promised a dishwasher by my in-laws when
the boys were small but they never did get me one. I didn't
have one until we moved to our town house about five years
ago. It's one appliance that I would not want to do
without. Yes, I am spoiled.

I like to draw but I'm not good at it. One day I
hope to take a class and learn how to draw with pencil or
pen and ink. I want to keep nature journals and include

I have a lot of weird dreams, many of which I
remember. I've noticed that several of my prescription
inserts state that the drugs I take may call "vivid dreams".
I guess that's what my dreams are. There's no explanation
of why these drugs can affect dreams. I am also plagued by
nightmares which often seem to come in cycles and are
associated with anniversaries of past events in my life.
