easy as this

We should marry
in a little white church
with nobody in attendance

We should wear our favorite colors
and leave town before our marriage hits the papers
Before everyone we love begins to cry
and before we hate eachother all over again

My toes are halfway painted
Two shades of summer pink
Grown out, but still pink
Quite obviously summer pink

And I realize that its my body's resistance that does it
My body's keen resistance to change
Because in this 22 degree temperature
Under piles of snow
Are my toenails-summer pink

My sister's hairdryer is under the sink
She's been gone for months now
She took all of her furniture away
but left her hair dryer all alone under the sink
All wrapped up in chords
And it looks like its waiting
And I cant help but feel as though I understand
I wonder if it knew it was the last time
As she was tucking it beneath the chords and slipping it
away

Lets make it a tradition
to get married once a year
to meet at eachothers lockers and pretend its the first time
That way there will always be firsts
Never lasts
Never changes
And neither of us will ever slip away.
