Christmas in central Wisconsin

Our trip went well, leaving Madison on Thursday while
reading Anne Tyler's Breathing Lessons, a book that grew
on us so that it was easier going on the return trip
12/26. Spent the day with Mom including dinner at the
Royal Tokyo where we sat next to a pediatrician
(developmental disabilities expert) and her two daughters,
one in Hamburg and the other in Lancaster, England, the
first learning to teach and the second in the middle of
college. THe next day in the afternoon, I watched the
Green Bay Packers pull another game out in the last play
of the game in the motel room (we stayed at the Super 8
motel after the first night as Ben stayed at Mother's
house). Ben arrived around 6:30 or so and we had a nice
dinner that Susie prepared. Next day we had nice
conversation including reading Bill Charlesworth's Haiku
(144, 36 for each season) in the evening. We ate dinner at
the Belvedere's buffet. Very tasty. Ben left before we
did, taking our time to make less severe the offset of
lots of company around for Mom. Glued down a crack in her
linoleum that's been a problem for her and tightened a
door screw. We also cleaned some, as vacuuming is more of
a chore when one is 90. She's doing very well, however,
and her having been helped with the jaw infection has been
a godsend. Definitely less involved with her art though.
