Life, Or Something Like It

Why Is That So Difficult To Fix?

It's 1203, Friday. 106pm. The weather has just gotten
worse. The wind is harsh, and it's begun to snow a bit. Not
the sort of soft flaky snow. No, rather, this is more like
miniature snow flakes that are hardened and sting upon
impact on exposed skin. I put up my jacket collar to
protect the back of my neck. Then I realized, if I just
move in position so that the building was at my back, ...
then everything was alright. It worked. I'm such a genius.

Despite my attraction to dark and rather unpleasant
weather, ... I find that this weather is quite annoying.
Mainly cause, the wind is so harsh that you can't really
form any sort of body heat around yourself. It gets ripped
away with anything past a few miles an hour.

Which, sort of leads me to the reason I'm even online right
now. I suppose I was mistaken when I said there were no
problems with Windows machines. There is one problem. But,
it's not a system problem, it's more of an admin problem.
Namely, the clock is fucked up. I would change it myself,
but I don't have admin level privileges. So, for now the
clock is reading one hour slower than it really is.

Not only that, but I misjudged when the bus would be here.
Luckily, I misjudged it too early. Lori and I were outside
for about 20 minutes, when she turns to me and says,

"Why is there like, ... no one out here but us?"
"They're probably still in class."
"But everytime we leave the University there's always a
ton of people out here leaving too. There's like, no one
out here."
"Well, ya. It's Friday. Maybe alot of people are
slacking."
"One week before exam week? That's not likely."
"Well, I've been slacking."
"Fortunately, not everyone here is like you."
"You're right ... something doesn't feel right."
"Do you remember what time it was before we left the lab?"
"Yes, it was about 1240pm."
"The bus comes around 135pm."
"Oh. Sorry."

So, ... it didn't quite work out the way I had expected.
The whole situation arose from a mix of not remembering
what time the bus came, and being confused by the system
clocks.

So, now I just barely have enough time to write this entry.
Soon we're going to have to go back outside. It's so nice
and warm in here. Probably because for once, they actually
closed the windows while the heating was on. I could never
understand why on earth anyone would want to open the
windows during the dead of winter, while the heating was
on. Who's running this lab?

At least now though, the CS server is running again. So I
imagine that means the Sunrays are working too. I guess the
problem I experienced before, is not technically the fault
of the Solaris OS. More like, ... the fault of ... whatever
is running the server. Which, I think is maybe another
Solaris OS. Ok, well then it's the Solaris OS's fault.

My vision is getting all fuzzy. I'm getting really tired,
so I think I'm going to nap for about 6 minutes before we
leave to catch the bus.

On an unrelated note, the title of this entry refers to the
question I ask myself whenever weird things happen in the
Lab.
