The Wedding...

well, the wedding was fun, but as usual there is an amusing story
connected to it...

when i got the invite, i wrote the date on my calender, and then
promptly lost the invite. I found it again at the beginning of the week
and saw the time, 3:30. I thought "hm. that's an odd time to have a
wedding...oh well..."

today i lounged around until about noon and then got on mapquest to
find directions to the place. as i got the address i saw something else.
3:30 was the time of the RECEPTION, not the wedding. the wedding was
to start at one.

shit!

i scrambled to type in the address of the church, and was horrified at the
expectant time in transit: one hour and forty mintues. still, if i pushed
the speed limit a little, i was sure i could make it. I ran to the car and
took off following the directions. i then realized something else...in
order to get to where i was going, i would have to board the Kingston/
Edmonds ferry.

...which would not leave until 12:55.

i sighed.

well, there was still time to get to the reception.

one problem: for some reason, mapquest didn't know the address of the
farm where the reception would be. i called down there and got
directions from my friend's fiancee's mom. it was awkward though
because she was trying to give me the quickest directions possible so
she could get back to setting things up, and i wanted really detailed
directions so i wouldn't get lost.

anyway, i ended up getting the directions and got a lunch-to-go from
my aunt and then hit the road.

the ferry was awesome. if anyone out there is reading this who doesn't
already know me, let me tell you something about me: i'm a cancer. as
such, i cannot get enough of the water. as the ferry got moving, i didn't
leave the exposed deck once. i walked up and down savoring the wind,
the smell, and the sight of the water. even though it wasn't the ocean or
anything romantic as that, it was as close as i've ever come to it. (i've
been on ferries before, but not since i was very little.)

i wasn't sure how long it would take to get to the reception, so i left
right from getting directions. i pulled in to the town it was at about an
hour and fifteen minutes early. to kill some time, i drove around and
ended up going in to the community center, where there was a rummage
sale. i bought a book of russian recipes that i'm going to give to lily
(who, along with her fiancee kevin, have told me they liked russian
cooking) and a book from The Onion.

the reception itself was a blast. i got to see my friend franco, my friend
nate (one of four that i know), and my friend nicholas. nate is engaged,
and nick is married. my other friend that was there, dave, is also
engaged...i was feeling very alone, which wasn't so great, but like i said
this morning, just seeing these people was better than the loneliness
was bad.

during the toast, dave talked about the band, and mentioned that one of
the first songs they ever wrote was for me. i was a little embarrassed,
like i always am whenever they bring that up, but i have to admit that i
kind of like the attention anyway. franco and his new wife had a funny,
rambling kind of toast where they started by toasting the mothers, and
then the grandmothers, and then the great grandmothers and so on
until they were toasting the romans and the greeks and then, eventually,
Adam and Eve. it was great.

i hung around until about 7, and then said my goodbyes and made my
way back home.

the ferry ride back was just as good, because it was at night and i got to
watch the approach to the lights, as well as the lights of the ship itself
reflecting off of the waves as they crashed away from the ship.

and that brings us to now.

all in all, a pretty good day. hopefully i'll have a wedding of my own one
of these days and get to experience it for myself..

peter
